Jamie Roberts Posted October 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey folks--just an unrelated product plug. I love ImagePrint 7 from Colorbyte Software. I'm a long-time Windows ImagePrint user and I just have to say the new version rocks. It's got a complete UI and install makeover and still uses all the older profiles from V6. But the results from my 3800 and 4000 are breathtaking--and I can use the papers I want to.... I'm not affiliated with them in any way, and for most non-pros, this is overkill. But I'm sitting here looking at some test prints with their canned profiles (and some of my own) and I'm just blown away by their goodness, overall. So: standard disclaimers, but FWIW, and YMMV It's definitely worth looking into if you need a RIP.

Guest roey Posted October 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2007 Thanks for your post, Jamie. I have been on the fence about updating my 6.0 Mac version. It works very well with my 4800 and I can live with the UI. The biggest advantage for me is that version 7 runs natively on my Mactel machine, however I don't print enough to justify the upgrade based on that alone. Do you use the Print Through Application option? If so, do you get consistent color when you print from Lightroom? Also, last time I looked, they didn't have profiles for the new Baryta-type papers yet that are being introduced by Hahnemühle, Harman, etc. Thanks
wparsonsgisnet Posted October 4, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2007 Now I feel a lot better. I started a thread some time ago, raving about IP. In that thread, I noted that in 10 years of digital printing this is the first time the print has resembled the screen. Amazing software. Also no affiliation with Colorbyte except for the MasterCard charge. Thanks for legitimizing me, Jamie.
Guest malland Posted October 4, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2007 Jamie, I've used ImagePrint for over five years: I first got it because for B&W it produced neutral B&W, while prints made with the Epson drivers usually had a color cast; also, the dithering in colour and B&W was better than that of the Epson drivers. Now, the x8xx series of Epson printers can also produce B&W prints free of colour casts. I haven't made another the comparisonsince I started using IP: do youi know how it compares the the Epson x8xx dirvers? Incidentally, there is an IP group here: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ImagePrint/messages/ —Mitch/Bangkok

They do have the new Baryta-type papers profiles ready; they shipped me the Harmon ones today. Just email support and ask them, because evidently they're behind in posting them to the server is all

Yes, I got ImagePrint originally about the same time for my Epson 2200. It was the only way at that time (before QuadTone RIP) I could get decent BW with the Epson inkset. The new X8XX print drivers from Epson are really very good. But FWIW and with my latest tests, I still prefer ImagePrint's BW on the standard Epson papers. But the kicker for me with IP is the ability to use other papers and have a lot of fine control over what gets put on the paper. For example, even if I create my own profile with the Epson driver, I can't limit ink easily. With IP, I can limit ink at every print run. This isn't important for some papers, but for others (like Arches Infinity) it's crucial. The new IP 7 layout controls though, for me, are worth the price of admission alone. They're just fantastic for creating proofs. So it's the combination of pure features, new ease-of-use and stellar print results that has me posting. It's a high-quality upgrade from V6, at least on Windows!

J_Brittenson Posted October 5, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 5, 2007 Anyone tried IP 7 on the Epson 7600/9600? Especially for B&W with MK. Although for the price (35% of $1495) I can switch to Cone K7, including a flush kit...
Jamie Roberts Posted October 7, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted October 7, 2007 Haven't tried IP on the 7600, but I have used it extensively on the 4000, both with IP profiles and my own. It's exceptionally good for BW, especially with MK inks, and pretty good with the PK inks too, as far as they go in the non-K3 UC set. Since the 7600 and 9600 are more linear, generally speaking, than the 4000, you should have even better results.
TonyG44 Posted September 13, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 13, 2010 I have just upgraded to V8 Does anybody know how to make prints lighter I think the blacks are too heavy, overall, unless viewed in a correct viewing booth prints look overall dark most of our work is viewed in lower light than a booth any help would be appreciated Tony and yes, for me after testing several other RIPs Shiraz, Onyx, Dalmation, gmg Imageprint is the only Rip to print BW correctly
Guest malland Posted September 14, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2010 Tony, the first place to start with would be the Output tab of the Color Management window. What is your "Adjust black point setting"? If it's at 50 try 100, which gives the most shadow detail and least dense output. —Mitch/Bangkok Scratching the Surface©
wparsonsgisnet Posted September 16, 2010 Share #12 Posted September 16, 2010 Mitch, I have the same problem with the prints going dark. In my installation, the b/w tab in Color Mgt is grayed out -- I can't change anything. Where do I free up this setting? tnx,
Guest malland Posted September 16, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2010 Bill, I don't know, but maybe this is related to the other problem you're having — seems that one of the settings must be set for a different purpose that you need. The ColorByte people should be able to clear this up quickly. —Mitch/Pak Nam Pran Scratching the Surface©
