Maybe I  am missing something but why would anyone here not want the new M6 to have MP internals?  I remember when the MP was introduced Leica claimed the MP solved or eliminated all the weaknesses of the M6.  And proceeded to jack up the by 20-30 %. Could Leica be lying about how well designed the MP was trying to justify a price increase?  I think my world is ending.

Reddotforum confirms the M6 is the MP internally.  Exact same camera which is excellent news.  All those "All new parts" claims are....

None taken.  I offered it up to anyone interested which actually puts me at risk, as sending it back for full refund with pre-paid postage was already an option for me.  I used that option.

Yes, I realised you were certainly not standing to gain from the offer, and it exposed you to risk - mainly of hassle from awkward buyers.

I'm not in love with the red dots or the large 'Leica M6' branding on the M6, but I'm starting to think that I like the lower key flat black paint better than the shiny black paint of the MP.  It's all moot since I don't need another M film body (need, huh!), but if I were to buy another new one it would be difficult for me to choose.  They each offer something the other one doesn't.

After 30 years the Leica branding on the front fades to a creamy colour and the red dot becomes a more subdued shade.  It is quite discreet IMO.

I suppose you could ask how do they know? Have they taken it apart? But then I am pretty certain it will be the same inside - I just don't get why Leica would bother making an entirely new camera (all new internals etc. as we were told in another thread) that does exactly the same as another current model.

I expect that there was something lost in translation and Leica were saying that it's different compared to the original M6.

I agree, it makes no sense especially seeing that the MP and M-A are still being made.  The 'All New Parts' statement was backed up by a claim of new suppliers, new pieces made in house etc.  I'm thinking it was marketing dept BS with no connection to reality, driven to get people excited in the launch.  Because that sounds better than 'this is the MP with a new top and M6 written on it'.

Then again, I WANT it to be an MP with a new top and M6 written on it!  Because the M-P is excellent and proven.

Yup, that was the same theory I put forward earlier.   It makes no sense for the new M6 to be anything other than an MP with M6 cosmetics.

David Farkas was at the factory for the recent big announcements, he saw one opened up and got to talk to factory people.  Of course, it's not a completely new camera.  Majority of the pats are surely interchangeable with a 1985 M6, I'd bet.

I'm hoping to miss out on sales tax, I bought an M11 earlier this year, Samy's didn't charge me tax. What I should do is figure out how to buy from the UK. I think it's moot since people are standing in lines to buy new film Leicas.

When I purchased audio equip from Europe, IRS sent me a bill; some kind of a use tax.

I (yesterday) received a notice that another M6 was available to purchase from the London shop.  I received a similar notice two weeks ago so obviously they are receiving some M6s.  I had decided I wasn't going to purchase one and "unsubscribed" from their mailing list but I still get the notifications for some reason...

How does the viewfinder of the new M6 compare with the M10 series VF?  I gather it is the VF from the MP but I have not looked through a film M VF before.  Anyone know or have experience pls. Thanks.

I’ve never looked through the finder of the M10 but have used plenty of analog M bodies. Leica has used the .72 finder starting with the M2. The M4-P introduced the paired sets of frame lines: 35/135, 50/75 and 28/90. The lines are parallax corrected and change as you focus. The finder windows are multicoated to reduce glare and improve viewing and the beam splitter contains a condenser element that reduces white out glare from sources where light enters at an angle. Many users like reduced number of lines and may have some of the less frequently used ones masked. The M2 had lines for 35/50/90 the M4 added 135 in the 50 set. I have terrible vision but find the M finders easy to use and accurate to focus. Hopefully, someone will weigh in with the actual difference from the M10 but I hope this helps.

It is just as awesome as M10 series, bright, contrasty, multicoated and crisp.
