Recently bought a new Summicron 28mm (11672) I will try to resize pics to upload. Exceptional lens in every sense.

Here a family picture

What is SC? This image thread is for the Leica lens and you have posted a number of pictures from another.

28 SC v.2 means 28mm Summicron Version 2, meaning exactly the ASPH Version 2 lens from this thread.

I learnt something new then. I haven't come across anyone referring to it as SC. Thanks.

Me neither 😉 Usually when I read SC I translate to "Single Coated" But in the context of this thread and "v.2" it makes sense.
It can get confusing when using abbreviations.

I'm still confused, what's about the v1? Is it optically the same? I see it used around for much much less and I wonder why

I have the v1 and I'm happy with the performance. The v2 is supposed to have a tweaked optical design to give better corner performance wide open. It also has a nicer metal screw in hood while the v1 has an ugly huge plastic clip-on hood. Also, some of the older v1 lenses are not 6-bit coded since they came out before the M8.

Thank you!

I mean, if the general contrast micro/contrast at f2 is the same I wouldn't care at all about worse corners. I love its gentle rendering.

About coding I always deactivate it since I want to enjoy how a lens naturally draws light

Confusing, isn‘t it… I wonder if there is an easier way to point the lenses out that we mean.
They are different lenses, different outer shell and hood design, slightly different optically.
I would understand calling the 28mm Summicron ASPH v2 and the Summicron ASPH v2 with built in hood (Safari, matte black, Kravitz) a version 1 and version 2… But oh well 🙄

Different optically… at tuning level or formula/construction level? Wasnˋt the change between v1 and v2 what has been called ¨ tweaking¨  the performance out of the ¨same¨ lens?

Yes that is what I meant. It is tweaked. I can‘t recall in what sense. I think the V2 is better on digital. But I think I read a couple articles on reidreviews (maybe I remember wrongly).
