gotium Posted October 7, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 7, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is this an issue on a brand new $5k lens? The blades do not move. Anyone know if this is an easy fix? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! adan Posted October 7, 2022 Share #3 Posted October 7, 2022 Bad issue. The aperture blades have come off their actuator pins, which is why they are 1) not moving when the aperture ring is turned, and 2) hanging at random angles. Not very hard for a technician to fix - just disassemble the lens and "re-hang" the blades on their pins. But not what I would consider a DIY repair. I had exactly the same thing happen last spring - dropped a 1980s 135 Tele-Elmar, and all the blades fell off their actuator pins and formed a similar random polygon shape inside the lens - and would no longer move. 1

Stein K S Posted October 7, 2022 Share #6 Posted October 7, 2022 The word ¨amazing¨ comes to mind... Its like the lenses need the info ¨this side up¨ on them? 🤪

eyeheartny Posted October 7, 2022 Share #8 Posted October 7, 2022 There are some dealers I know who have said they have seen frequent instances of this with the new 35 Lux. Seems like QC is slipping.
Jared Posted October 7, 2022 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2022 Yes, it's an issue. And since the lens is brand new, they should just swap it out for you, assuming there is stock. Even if there isn't. stock, waiting for a replacement lens is likely going to be faster than waiting for a repair on your lens. I'd ask for--insist on--a replacement lens. Aidan Posted May 6, 2023 Share #10 Posted May 6, 2023 I came here because my new lens has the exact same problem. Such a bummer. Was looking forward to shooting with it this weekend.

LeicaR10 Posted May 6, 2023 Share #12 Posted May 6, 2023 (edited) Aidan, First, welcome to the forum. Second, sorry to hear you got a defective lens. I suggest you simply return it for a swap out. When you get a good copy, the lens is stellar. Last, what was the production date of the lens? You can find the date on the outer box white label along with the serial number, etc.. Allegedly, this was fixed months ago as Jakontil wrote above, when it was discovered the blades were defective. Hence the long wait time for the replacement blades and production hold up. r/ Mark Edited May 6, 2023 by LeicaR10
RMF Posted May 6, 2023 Share #13 Posted May 6, 2023 @Aidan sorry to hear that you encountered the aperture blade issue. I too thought Leica addressed the issue months ago. As the above already asked..what’s the production date of yours lens?
Aidan Posted May 6, 2023 Share #14 Posted May 6, 2023 I'm not exactly sure how to determine the production date. There's a date on the box that says 2022/07/28. Maybe that's it?

LeicaR10 Posted May 6, 2023 Share #19 Posted May 6, 2023 Aidan, I sent you PM to help you. You need to return it to the dealer. That lens was made in July 2022 when the aperture mechanism was defective from the company that made the blades/mechanism. Its all in my PM to you. r/ Mark
RMF Posted May 6, 2023 Share #20 Posted May 6, 2023 (edited) I don’t know if Leica serial numbers sequently follow an exact order, but my FLE v2 is 4890xxx with a production date of 3/3/23. It hasn’t experienced any aperture blade issues. Edited May 6, 2023 by RMF
