Loquats.

Yes it looks like a loquat tree I think, but I’m not sure it would be fruiting now in cooler climate?

Loquats are essentially “Japanese medlars” which are  a form of hawthorn AFAIK but don’t have the “crown” at the end of the fruit - but they’re not really medlars.
 

I don’t know whether the fruit is edible (or requires “bletting” a fabulously medieval term for their rotting/ripening). Our neighbours in a previous Cotswold village had lots of “true”medlar trees and used to leave the glut of fruit out on their front wall for people to take away to blet.

Thank you for the suggestions re identity.  Looking at the relevant items on Wikipedia etc, loquat does seem favourite.  I'll keep an eye on them so see how they ripen.
