Hello,

I took a trip on a sailing ship half around Europe, from the Netherlands to Portugal.
Here I like to show a few pictures from it. I decided to take my good old M 240 with me and wondered that she survived.
She got sprayed with salt water, was dangling against the made of steel bowsprit or other things, stays wet most of the time and slipped together with me about 4 meters along the floor of the deckhouse in a storm to be stopped from some tables and banks. Close to a total loss in some situations, but stills she works. Wow!

...

Nice experience 👍

What lens(es) did you use?

A whole range: VC 5,6/ mm, VC 4,5/15 mm, Elmarit 21 mm ASPH, Elmarit 28 mm ASPH1, Summicron 35 mm ASPH1, Summicron 50 mm V, Macro-Elmar 90 mm, APO-Telyt 135 mm

Unfortunately I can't edit my post any more. Otherwise I would add the information there.

This one was taken with the Summicron 35 ASPH1

So many ropes - how on earth do they not get tangled? Lovely photos…

It should be over 200 different ropes. In the end I was at least able to tell the names of the 24 sails. But if you understand the system you have some chance to figure out what line is for what purpose. Problem is to find the right line on deck. To learn this I would have needed a few days more;-) They seldom get tangled since you only use the ones you need at a time. But for one square sail you have between10 to 16 ropes to handle. So you need a lot of manpower. Everything is hand-operated.

Elmarit 21 mm ASPH

With this lens I also took the pictures during the storm and from the bowsprit.

Guess this was taken with the CV 15 mm.

Thank you very much Carl,

we had to work in the watch system. 4 hours work, 4 hours free. One day I had the dog watch from 4.00 - 8.00 h a.m. and later that day the watch from 8.00 - 12.00 h p.m. So these day I saw the beauty of the sun setting and going down.

Shortly before the sun comes up (Elmarit 21 mm ASPH)

and shortly before it goes down

CV 15 mm?

Life on board become challenging for example during the storm. You have to be rather careful with every move if the ship heels that much. Our ships doctor get injured then and I also scratched my shoulder. Luckily nothing serious.

I discovered a typo in my last post. Watch system was 4 h work and 8 h off. Sorry! In addition there was also two 2 h watches during daytime, so that the whole thing rotates.
