Here you can see the mechanism to fix the extended tube of a 50mm Elmar-M, there are three of them around the tube's rear end:

If one carefully lifts the "spring" on the right side the fixed position of the tube gets more stabile. I don't see a similar device for the 90mm Elmar as its tube doesn't protrude. So there is no chance for self-service.

The picture from an Elmar. The Macro is different, nothing protuding. I had the 'loosening problem' with this lens myself. That means: it would easily disengage itself.

I visited Wetzlar with my chrome 11634 version and there on the fly they tightened it. The engineer said that there is a small screw to tighten the tube.

So that point to a different direction of solving it.

For the rest it is great on the M10-R too.

The older version comes with the goggles. If one purchases a macro adapter and uses it on, let's say an M10-P, does one need the goggles?

What you call the goggles are in fact the old macro adapter which happens to have goggles and is made to be used together with the Macro-Elmar 90/4. The new macro adapter has no goggles and can be used with any lens. In LV mode, both macro adapters can be used this way. In RF mode, you will need the old macro-adapter to frame and focus the Macro-Elmar 90/4 on closeups through the optical finder. Clear enough?

As an ex-newbie, you certainly are clear enough.
Thank you.

I use the Macro Elmar on my M10R, and I just love it. Main reason for buying that lens was its size. I use it for portraits and details (not macro). Attached you‘ll find a recent shot. Thanks

I doubt very much that you would find anyone who actually owns this lens, new or old, complain about it. I do own it (the older version) nd it works extremely well with all my Leica: M9, M-p(240) and my recently acquired SL2. I do not have the macro attachment, so cannot comment on that part.

Hi Jean-Michel,

Can you collapse the old 90mm Elmar on your m9 without touching the shutter? Really want to know if it's possible.

Thank you!

I'm not Jean-Michel just happy owner of the Macro-Elmar-M 90mm for many years

if we are talking about this macro lens, collapsing it don't let the lens part out from the mount, so safely collapsed when mounted.

... danger for sensor,

If it's the other old Elmar 90mm, don't collapse it

And, I am Jean-Michel; yes, you can collapse the Macro-Elmar without fear: the barrel does not extend into the camera cavity. The old 90 Elmar sure looks like the barrel would likely protrude way too far in the camera.

Hello all, just received my Macro Set M 11629 which includes the Elmar M 90mm 1:4 including the angle finder and the "old" style "google" adapter.

The only thing that is unfortunately missing from the set is the manual.

I hope there is somebody around able to send me a scan of the manual?  most important on how to use the "goggles"

Any advise welcome, cheers Reginalf

Google is your friend. for goggles. Lots of info here about how it works. But there's really nothing special or complicated about it - just attach the bits together (lens will be upside down when using the googles).

Hey, thank you for replying, I did do a search for the actual manual, but unfortunately nowhere to be found?

Was hoping to find a scan so I could ad a printout of it to the set.

Thanks

Yes, don‘t even try to collapse an old collapsible 90mm Elmar in a digital body.

Though the sensor will not be hit. It didn‘t hit the film in an M3 for which it was made, and the film was at the same position as the sensor. It didn‘t even touch the shutter in front of the film or the baffles in front of the shutter. The distance between the flange and these baffles was shorter for an M3 than it is in a digital M body and if you measure the length of the protruding shaft  when it is collapsed you’ll find out that it is not longer than an Elmar-M.

The reason why you cannot collapse this 90mm Elmar is the width of the shaft‘s end. The „mouth“ of a digital M is much narrower inside than for a film M and it is too narrow for the rear end of the 90mm Elmar. So if you try to collapse it the sharp edges of the lenses rear end will severely scratch the sides of the „mouth“ of a digital M.

I’ve acquired a version one copy this  week to use with the 14652 macro adapter on a m10r  . I read lots about the 1st version not being made for this adapter . I cannot find anything wrong with the pairing , the images are practically 3d , I thought my summarit 90 , 2.5 was sharp this pairing is Stella . It works great through the view finder and the live view . The only brnifit I could use in the vs2 would be the ability to lock it retracted as it creeps a bit in the camera bag . Not a big deal . Highly recommend from me .
