First day out on the Covid recovery road. A little lightheaded and hands still a little shaky. 5mph on my scooter feels like 90mph on a go cart..

Female Emperor Dragonfly – Swaddywell Nature Reserve near Peterborough UK, 7 Sept. 2023.   A very hot day and had no intention of photographing dragonflies - but sat by the pond in the cool of early evening and this specimen was hawking back and forth – so tried a few pix using 'burst mode' when the specimen was 'hovering'.    Leica CL / Sigma 105mm Macro L-mount.

A friend has advised this specimen is more likely a Male Southern Hawker. I assumed it was an Emperor because it's displaying a 'drooping abdomen in flight'  – an Emperor characteristic. Now tend to agree with my friend who is very 'odonata knowledgeable'. My colour blindness is also a factor.

I'm advised by botanist Sarah Lambert that this Bush Cricket specimen is a Female Long-Winged Conehead – once so rare in the UK it was on the Red Data List – but it is now re-established mainly in the Midlands and spreading south. Photographed at Swaddywell Nature Reserve near Peterborough UK, 8 September 2023  – one of the hottest days of the year. A devil of a job to photograph in the long grasses; each time I crawled on the ground to compose the side view image, the specimen moved behind its perch – and when I thought I'd composed a better image, it suddenly jumped away.

Leica CL / Sigma 105mm Macro L-mount; handheld.

Dock on foggy morning... black and white as well as color processed.

I've printed the black and white and it looks sweet... but I also like the etherial qualities of the colored rendition.

cheers,

bruce

It makes me so sad that Leica abandoned their APS-C line of cameras. The CL is a super capable camera. I keep it around my back when shooting wildlife. The camera allows me to grab a serendipitous landscape when the opportunity arises.

Are you using the 18-56 or 11-23? In either case these are wonderful enviable images.

I am using the 18-56 Vario... I bought a used CL / Vario-Elmar kit about a month ago as a walk around camera. If I wasn't so into wildlife photography, I'd be a CL and SL2 photographer as I absolutely love the build and design of the CL. While I don't have the SL2, I can see that the camera operates in a very similar manner. The 18-56 Vario-Elmar is a really nice zoom lens,... I'm considering a second Leica lens for my CL, but am not sure where I want to go. I could see adding the 50-135, as I am a nature photographer and zooms are really helpful when doing landscape work.

If you are curious, my primary system consists of Nikon Z9/Z8/Z6II and 17-28 f2.8, 70-180 f2.8, 400 f4.5, and 800 f6.3PF (All Nikon Z-lenses). I am a nature photographer that is split between wildlife and landscape. I added the CL to document travel, but have found it to be a super capable landscape camera. I know that a lot of people think that a 24MP APSC/DX camera is not a good landscape choice, but the CL sensor is super-forgiving. Furthermore, if you are willing to invest a bit of time into careful processing, it is more than capable of producing landscapes that can be printed 24" to 30" wide.
