Better than Canon or Sony

according to the sources the AF system of the newly developed Panasonic S5 Mark II camera is as good as Canon and Sony’s latest AF system

Only rumors indeed but as good... better... we shall see but it would be an L-mount camera anyway. Interesting if it is more compact than the S5 but i don't hold my breath.

I think a pocketable video cam equal to the X2 size is in order. If I was Leica and Panny… I would question the younger crowd and tailor it directly to their needs size, ergonomics, memory, editing software Wi-Fi.. etc. the Panny price has to be under $1000 with the Leica over $1000.

A rumour disseminated on another website, taken from a needy youtube influencer who claims a leak from someone he cannot name, who may be someone who heard it from Panasonic.

It must be true.

Truth from a rumour website, surely you jest... And they all name their source 😆

So the upcoming S5 mkII  will suggest the Pana Leica camera Collab will also have PDAF?

How likely is another Pana Leica FF Camera with PDAF? Or is it just a pipe dream?

The only way I could think this could happen without cannibalizing existing product lines is a FF camera in the same vain as a lx100 /dlux. A FF compact camera with fixed (non 28mm sub f2) or zoom lens (perhaps a WATE OR MATE).

Is the new the bigger? "Approx. 134 x 102 x 90mm" according to the specs attached.

The EVF definitely needs an upgrade. An upgraded AF is surely nice for some, although the existing AF-C was good enough for my needs.

I don't understand the product policy with two similar bodys and the same sensor. One video oriented camers (S5 II) and an even more video oriented camera? Other manufacturers have photo oriented cameras and video oriented cameras. Panasonic currently only has the S5 because that's the only body that sells.

Panasonic an Leica have a new collaboration called L2.

I heard that they gave the existing Pana + Leica cooperation a name and made a press announcement to make it clear to the market that Leica does not leave Panasonic and only works with Xiaomi in the future. Does not sound like they develop a new cobranded camera together.

Only time will tell.

I think they've made that clear. The goal is to share development costs for the basic architecture, instead of having each company develop their own Bluetooth interface (for example). In other words, all of the un-sexy building blocks that are necessary for building modern cameras.

This should free-up resources for the things that make each brand really unique. Sure, you could argue that the M9's SD card implementation was "unique," but it certainly wasn't what made that camera desirable! It's best to combine forces for this type of thing, so that more can be spent on design, haptics, colour science, etc.

+1. Sharing development/increasing volum of e.g. the processor - like Leica's Maestro processor vs a common L2 processor - must be a significant gain for both companies (Leica particularly, I would guess).

Personally, I prefer Leica and Lumix colours over those from Canon and Nikon (the other systems that I am familier with). Could be accidental, but more likely the result of collaboration. Etc.
