ynp Posted July 29, 2022 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2022 How do you compare the S35 to your Contax lenses? I am looking for a wide lens because my Leica Zoom has been broken down. thanks.
jip Posted July 29, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted July 29, 2022 I until now only used the Zeiss 35 3.5 the Leica lens is way ahead. Especially at closer focus ranges. But I must say the Zeiss always did great! I will compare the two in more detail as I’ve shot the new lens more. see on this post I have quite some Zeiss 35mm shots: https://jipvankuijk.nl/two-years-with-leica-s-e-typ-006/
Sailronin Posted July 29, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2022 I really enjoy the 35mm Summarit on my (006). I used to have the 24mm but sold it as it got very little use . The 35 is just right for street photography.
Pieter12 Posted July 29, 2022 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2022 The 35 is my go-to lens and usually stays on my camera, even if I have the 70 in the bag. It is big and heavy (not as heavy as the 120, though!), but an excellent lens.
davidmknoble Posted July 30, 2022 Share #7 Posted July 30, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) @jip for landscape work on the coast, the 35mm and 45mm are my most used focal lengths. I really like the 35mm as it seems to be one of the widest with such little distortion. Nice buy!
djmay Posted July 30, 2022 Share #8 Posted July 30, 2022 I have not tried the 35. I used the 30 quite a lot until I got the 24; now the 30 collects dust. I have occasionally thought about trading the 30 for a 35.
Milan_S Posted July 30, 2022 Share #9 Posted July 30, 2022 Congratulations Jip, I love the rendering of the 35mm even for portraits

shanefking Posted July 30, 2022 Share #11 Posted July 30, 2022 Btw how fast is the autofocus of third party lenses with adapters compared to Leica lenses?

As fast as the lens can focus, in Contax 645’s case its pretty fast, the one thing I noticed the Contax 645 lenses are faster at is: Less shutter lag when stopped down a lot. Leica S lenses when stopped down to lets say f/8 or smaller considerably increase the time before the exposure is made, seems Leica aperture control in Leica S lenses is slow. Contax 645 lenses are faster in that regard. 2
jip Posted August 2, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted August 2, 2022 Just heard back from Leica, the lens has had the replacement autofocus motor installed in 2018. Phew. That’s one worry less
jip Posted August 16, 2022 Author Share #14 Posted August 16, 2022 P.S. if anyone wants to get the Contax 645 35mm f/3.5 from me feel free to PM me. It is a great lens for the Leica S and was my favourite lens from the Contax line up when used on the Leica S.
