Please , this is NOT a complaint or Leica bash.

Long time Leica user , first major drama. Out for an early morning walk  first exciting shot …. Dead , dead as a Do Do .

Tried “everything” still nothing. Took it to Sydney Leica shop , Yes it’s dead (or is that Failed to fire up). Packed up, off for resuscitation or whatever they do to Dead M11’s

Back to the SL2 meantime , thank goodness I didn’t sell it.

Will let you know cause , when I know.

I accept that each M film or digital can be out of order.

Always for decades having some kind of backup(s).

So many Ms and Leitz/Leica lenses I used "normally" failed in different ways in use.

So many M4, M6, M8, M9 ( R 4/5 also ! ) failed at "wrong" moments gave me lessons.

Always having a backup is great, i have mine, it’s just the process returning it here is abysmal.. 3rd world country

M film might fail or at least require services over the past i have been using, still, on spot backup always been the answer though rarely need it

Two stages answers:

- @MikeMike88 film Ms that I used (not the same) had shutter blinds failing, VF blackout, RF sticking, eyelets broken, so on ...

- when I use digital (while travelling), I always have film M as backup (more reliable than digital), last time when my M9 failed, I was happy I carried one M6 + some films

Sorry for your misfortune. As a M11 owner, I hope that this is a one-off.

i cant really see how a film camera can fail unless you’ve really beat it up

Maybe the right word, "beat it up" 👍

I solved the dilemma with two new M-A which never failed to work properly since 2014.

First one is so nice, bought the second one as backup (as always ! )

As a fellow Australian, this might make you feel better, this song is dedicated to all LEICA USERS.

It's only MONEY.

Very nice music, really enjoyed the listening experience. The guy with the mandolin (I think), really added something special to the sound mix. But overall a great listen 👍🏼

Did the same thing. I have two M-A's. However, one is back to Leica after three months of use having too much dust in the Viewfinder. My other one scratches negatives slightly.. :( But that might be a mean dust speck somewhere inside. I do not want to send that one back as well, because I don't have another backup...

Can’t t dispute your experience but i cant really see how a film camera can fail unless you’ve really beat it up . Digital however can be more finicky i guess especially Leica . Before owning a digital Leica i never heard of such shortcomings from this brand. My M6 is a real champ as is the hassleblad 500 .

As a long time M owner, and pro, from M6 to now M10-R/M10M, all I can say is 🤣. I think just about every M body I ever owned went off eventually for some fix, digital or film, and esp the film bodies! And, no, no 'beating up' just using them as they should be used.

Did you often charge the battery in-camera? Wondering if that could have fried the main board. Looking forward to seeing what Leica says. Please press them for an answer as to what went wrong if they simply send you a replacement or use vague language in the work order.

FWIW, Hugh Brownstone, whose M11 also died after a few months, reported that he had exclusively charged his battery internally.

I wonder if he was using a non-Leica power block at the wall, too. I use an Anker power block because it has the foldable plug prongs, but I only use it to charge the batteries in the Leica charger.
