oldwino Posted July 27, 2022 Share #1  Posted July 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a nice copy of the Super-Angulon 21mm f4, and it is my understanding that the M-mount on these is removable, thus enabling use on a Barnack camera as well. There is a very tiny screw on the mount...does anyone know which size screwdriver I will need to remove this very tiny screw? It is smaller than any of my eyeglass screwdrivers, so I am assuming I will need to purchase a watch repair type size... frame-it Posted July 28, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted July 28, 2022 it has only one screw or 3 screws?
a.noctilux Posted July 28, 2022 Share #5  Posted July 28, 2022 A tricky job, as this screw is not meaning to be removed by user. As @frame-it wrote, mine has been glued strongly from factory, so the tiny screwdriver I used was not strong enough, it turned freely (the glue was less strong ! ) when I tried to unscrew. Untill now I never been able to unscrew the adapter on the S-A 4/21. Instead I use native screw mount lenses with my LTM. Always I just use the lens with M bodies anyway.  1
250swb Posted July 28, 2022 Share #6 Â Posted July 28, 2022 Try heating the head of screw with the tip of a soldering iron, then as it cools down add a drop of acetone to wick into the threads while trying to unscrew it.
keith_lee Posted July 28, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted July 28, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) The set screw on my 21/4 SA can accept up to a 1 or 1.2mm wide screwdriver. I did not have to contend with any glue residue. The screw came out easily with hardly any force needed. Vessel makes some nice precision screwdrivers. I'm sure that there are other decent brands as well.

I just don't have anyway to measure something this small accurately.
a.noctilux Posted July 29, 2022 Share #9 Â Posted July 29, 2022 I confirm that I used 1mm screwdriver (without success !)
oldwino Posted July 31, 2022 Author Share #10  Posted July 31, 2022 1mm screwdriver procured, grub screw removed. It is the tiniest screw I’ve ever seen. The mount then just simply unscrewed. No glue on my copy. Mounted to my II, rangefinder seems accurate relative to the distance markings on the lens. Will give it the final, definitive test today on a hike and a roll of HP5.

Zeitblom Posted August 29, 2023 Share #14 Â Posted August 29, 2023 A former Leica technician converted my Super Angulon-M 4.0-21mm for use on a screw mount Leica. He checked that my lens was suitable for this rebuild, had the right tools and cleaned the never-before-used M39 mount of all the dirt and grime that had accumulated since the 1950s.
