trequartista Posted July 19, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I just ordered one the other day, it became available once more in the Leica Online Store. I think there were at least three brand new cameras produced. I am surprised since I thought the camera is limited and the production came to a halt. What do you think? Maybe they had some black paint left? Edited July 19, 2022 by trequartista
Advertisement Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Hi trequartista, Take a look here M10-R Black Paint still in Production. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted July 20, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2022 We can’t know actual amounts unless Leica discloses, but they have apparently exceeded ‘limited edition’ numbers in the past (see 50mm M Summilux Black Chrome). If so, customer demand/profitability likely explain. LHSA limited editions, on the other hand, have adhered to published figures AFAIK and, if one cares about such things, it might be best to stick with those. jakontil Posted July 20, 2022 Share #3 Posted July 20, 2022 May be they were produced in batches, like limited run each time just like any other items? we’ll see how limited it is by looking at their production date lol
grahamc Posted July 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2022 Hi @trequartista Thanks for the information. How did you go with this - has the order been fulfilled ? I am in Germany at the moment passing through and noticed Black Paint 10R was available in Frankfurt Leica Store to put in my basket and pay for, however when I emailed them they advised that they didn’t know when stock would be available. I am unsure whether this means never, or whether it is like MP that they do expect some at an unknown time. Perhaps I should ask. I’d be interested to know if your order was successful Thanks Graham
Al Brown Posted July 25, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2022 The "limited edition" or "limitiert" only means - as I have quoted Leica's own words numerous times here - that they put out a certain number of items, but if THE DEMAND EXCEEDS these numbers AND if Leica feels like it they do make some more and put a whole new batch out for sale. Happened several times. The "ultra limited edition" or "streng limitiert" means the items are numbered (999/2000 or 12/300 etc.) and there will never be more than the original batch available, at least not intentionally (there were some batch mix-ups with several limited edition series, like the M4-P 1913-1983 etc.)

I advise you to subscribe if the product gets available again, you‘ll get a notification if they ever stock up.

Probably not too far from the truth - maybe they had a batch of painted shells that just needed assembling. Also, who's to say they released the whole 2500 already? Perhaps they held some back from production due to the M11.
insomnia Posted July 25, 2022 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2022 I was sceptical at first regarding the M10-R, being an "in-between" model. With the M11 being what it is (for some, a more inconsequent in-between), I do get the hype on the M10-R, especially in that color With respect to availability: just call a few stores before you place an order in the dark. I remember a few months back there were a few copies of the M10-R BP that popped up on the Leica USA online site for sale. The availability was gone within a day and I remembered someone here on this forum purchased one. That was back in Mar or April of this year but the BP model has been out of stock at dealers since Nov 2021. I have a hunch these M10-R BP bodies that pops up sporadically for sale on the Leica USA site were ones returned to Wetzlar last year with shutter button issues. Perhaps Wetzlar had fixed or replaced the shutter button assembly and put back on sale. Reason why it's a hunch for me was when my dealer told me they had to send a few copies of the BP back to Wetzlar last year due to this shutter issue. Since the purchase was within 30 days, their store was credited back the funds or a new replacement M10-R BP was sent. So now wondering where these originally defective copies of the BP ended up. My guess is Leica finally got around to fixing them and then putting them back on sale on their sites. Edited July 26, 2022 by txjm
erniethemilk Posted July 27, 2022 Share #11 Posted July 27, 2022 I've never seen an M10-R BP in the UK since the initial run sold out. In fairness, I'd love one but looking at my M10-P, I'm not sure I'd get my monies worth from the paint, it definitely wouldn't last long in my hands😂

I also got the M10-P prior to buying the M10-R BP and now use both equally (ok probably BP more, usually take the M10-P to "rougher" assignments e.g. hiking and camping trips where it'll likely get knock around a bit). The M10-R with BP is one of the most beautiful cameras I have seen. The BP model wasn't on my radar until I saw one at my dealer's showroom. I already like the body shape of the M10 in general, but now putting a black paint on takes it to a whole new level.

knopfler1976 Posted August 10, 2022 Share #14 Posted August 10, 2022 (edited) Hi guys, I just received an email from LEICA France that M10-R BP is available. Went on-line and completed the order. Looks like it is still in production indeed. There seems to be still a few available as the link is still active:https://store.leica-camera.com/fr/fr/shopware.php?sViewport=detail&sArticle=3183 If you live in France (works for EU as well I guess), you can try your luck. This is a good guess. Mine was purchased September 2021. Never had 1 problem with it. Flawless. I was sort of afraid of this issue when I read about it (after I bought it), but it seems to have been limited to a certain number of them and certainly not ALL of them. Not sure what happened there. You and me both 👍 I bought a bad M10P used. Heart broken. But was able to sell it for what I paid for it and traded it for a new M10R. The guy at the store said “well. I have a black chrome or black paint. Which one do you want”. I said “Ah. I’m already spending $8,000. What’s another $1,000. Let’s do BP”. It was just like that. They probably just got it in when I went.
Cthulhu Posted August 16, 2022 Share #20 Posted August 16, 2022 (edited) BTW, this is from someone who never thought I would ever be able to have a Leica camera. I used to see these online. The first one I saw that totally captured me was the M10 Reporter Edition. I remember sending a photo to a friend and saying “wow. Can you imagine owning one of these cameras?!”… then I saw the ad about the Black Paint M10R. I thought the same. All the lucky people who would own one of these cameras. I would never know the feeling. But I can look at the pictures. And just use my Fuji. And then Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I was in a store buying that same Leica I saw in the pictures. I couldn’t believe it. 😀 and then recently same store, my first Leica lens. I’m still shocked I own these things.
