For you. I own 28/35/50, but mostly choose between the latter two. Preferences vary; there are no absolutes. Jeff
Advertisement Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here Time to beat a dead horse, 35mm or 50mm summicron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
otto.f Posted June 23, 2022 Share #42 Posted June 23, 2022 I loved my summicron 28 latest but most of the shots I cropped. So if I buy a 28 again it doesn’t need to be very expensive. The Ultron ii family is perfect enough

And when it's one lens only, 35mm, indeed.
a.noctilux Posted June 23, 2022 Share #44 Posted June 23, 2022 To the OP, in my experiences, only one lens at a time is the best way to begin and to go further one lens can be any of focal length/aperture if the lens is comfortable to be used as human being, our aptitude to adapt in situations with limited means can be wonder so don't be shy to choose the equipment then use it a while, then be happy or change if need be 😉
spydrxx Posted June 23, 2022 Share #45 Posted June 23, 2022 You thoroughly beat the dead horse. Now it's time to make a decision and get the lens of your choice. Use it, learn its quirks and nuances from it, have a blast. When you come to the point that your needs change, and another lens would better meet those needs, then embark on the second leg of your journey.🙂
earleygallery Posted June 23, 2022 Share #46 Posted June 23, 2022 I like a 35mm on my M2 and when travelling there's not much that you will ever miss with a 35 and 90 lenses.
Herr Barnack Posted June 24, 2022 Share #47 Posted June 24, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) 35 Summicron first, then 50 Summicron down the road. 35mm is optimal as an all-around lens with 28mm being a close second. The 50mm focal length feels like a short telephoto compared to the 28 and 35 (to me, at least).
edstock Posted June 25, 2022 Share #48 Posted June 25, 2022 I had that dilemma and solved it by buying, over time, 28, 35, 50, 75, 90. The 28, 35, and 50 are all f2 summicrons, the 75 is my summilux f1.4, and my 90 is a f2.8 elmerit made in Germany. All have their own specific usages.
