cbgrey Posted June 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm really, really happy with my Voigtlander 28mm and 35mm Ultrons. My 50mm is a Summilux which is, of course, legendary but sometimes I want a 50mm that matches the more modern rendition of the other Voigtlanders. I know the 50mm APO-Lanthar is supposed to be amazing but would like something more compact with a focusing tab etc. Has there ever been a hint of something on the horizon? Advertisement Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 Hi cbgrey, Take a look here Wish Voigtlander had a 50mm Ultron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dennis Posted June 16, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2022 The modern Ultron you need, it's called Nokton II. Super sharp, small, light and very modern Welcome, dear visitor! Just focus tab is missing, but I think it checks all the other boxes...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Jeff S Posted June 16, 2022 Share #3 Posted June 16, 2022 A 50 Ultron did exist, but not natively for Leica, and apparently not up to modern standards. https://www.arsenal-photo.com/Voigtlander-Ultron-2-50mm-lens-with-Adapter-to-Leica-M Jeff

I also want a 50/2 from Voigtlander. It'll probably be called Heliar though, but it would be really nice if it matches the style of the current Ultrons Edited June 16, 2022 by hmzimelka

However, if someone gave me the option of the ZM Planar 50/2 Optics (or similar) in a current Ultron body design, I'd take that any day over the Nokton 50/1.5 ASPH II

It also feels different. Not the same quality focusing or the feel of the aperture ring. It also has those annoying tabs on the aperture ring. The images don’t have the same look either. The Ultrons have a specific look and feel of higher quality. It’s perfect and I don’t know why they don’t make a 50mm. I have the 50 APO-Lanthar and instead of waiting for Voigtlander I’m going to wait for a mint 50 Summicron v4 or v5 to become available and jump on it. Otherwise, I’ll stick to the APO-Lanthar. Every photo is magic. If you find a V5 Summicron, a 3rd party tab and a little VHB tape and you’ll a tabbed lens! Welcome, dear visitor! The double focus ring beats a tab any day of the week.
