Am told Leica is aware of the issue and is looking into it

Any updates?

Someone is trying to sell this kit for $30,000 on fredmiranda.

$10,000 over retail.  But now with these possible finish issues as well as the camera may be a scratcher, that is a tough sell.

I have noticed the same on mine and submitted the information to Leica customer service to try and get the issue looked into. This should not occur

What is the status? I can’t imagine a Leica Store, Leica USA or Germany would just have nothing to say.

Imagine: you pay the 30k. Then you realize Leica has gone all the way through by installing a titanium pressure plate. Hard, so hard that it scratches the film even on the emulsion side 🤣

Anyone? Finish fixed itself all good?

I have been advised this is not a 'may develop over time' thing .  i.e. If there is no sign of this issue on a camera already, then it's not something that is going to 'develop'

As far fetched as it seems, my guess is some form of protection film during machining (common in CNC production) left on a couple of cameras, but that's only a guess.

Reading between the lines of what I've been told that would be my assumption but I can't comment further

It’s a shame that the owner(s) of the affected cameras have not followed up here.

I would like to know Leica’s explanation and resolution because once these are out of warranty - which will be pretty soon - you will be SOL if you buy one of these for $20k +- and then find the finish is peeling off.

As I mentioned, the advice from Leica is that wouldn’t happen (it’s not something that would develop over time).  The assumption is that it is evident on the affected units more or less from new, consistent with the reports that were made and nothing since.

If I could find one for $20k I’d be buying one.  I’ve seen one $30k and all others sold much higher.

I have an MP Titane, M7 Titane, and two MA Titane. Of course, I beat them all up as as I do with all my cameras.
The MP and M7 are very durable. One of my MA is, the other one scratches very easily (as seen on the video) . Too bad, cause the MA is the most beautiful of the three.

Still waiting for a fix

You reported it in October 2022.  It is now May 2023.  7 months later - and nothing?

You paid 20K and this is Leica's service?

This thread has gone from “omg there’s a problem is there a fix” to “dude you seriously spent that much money and haven’t figured out a solution in over half a year.” 😂

It doesn’t sound like he hasn’t figured out a solution.  It sounds like Leica is stonewalling him after he spent $20k on that camera.

I'll drop in here since there seems to be some major anticipation from lookers-on.

When dropping by my dealer one day, we both said, hmm that looks strange and he snapped a few pics of the finish. He later asked me to swing back by when I have a chance, so he can give an opinion about whether or not it's worth submitting a warranty claim. Lots of other cameras and things to do in life, so I haven't been back in yet. I'll be sure to follow up here once he gives me an opinion on whether or not to return the camera for a warranty claim. I'm reluctant to ever let this camera leave my possession. Wedding ring, wedding watch, and Titan MA in my grave 😄

With all this said, I'm aware of this flaw and posted pics to this forum originally. Nonetheless I love the camera, hence the lack of urgency/focus here. Maybe there are other owners that are as stressed out as the non-owners in this thread 😆

Pics of my ruined MA (w Titanium 28 Cron) attached. Don't mind a little dust from my dirty Typ 601 sensor. Cheers!

Your dealer would give you his opinion over whether it is worth submitting a warranty claim? On a new $20k camera w a peeling finish?

Hoo boy.

Leica thanks you for not caring! You are their ideal customer!

In all seriousness, all that matters is if you care as you actually own it. And you don’t, so you are good.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank BigBabyEarl for beating me to that last one that Leica Los Angeles had.
