Thank you to everyone who took part in last month's 163rd Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with nearly 800 pictures, excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme.   Also, thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month by generously posting their pictures and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us!

The 164th Barnack's Monthly theme for May 2022 is:

 Place of worship

This month's theme is any picture that contains what could reasonably be a place of worship or a part of one.

For example, it could be a small wooden church in Iceland, a synagogue, St Patrick's huge brick cathedral in New York, a bell tower, a side chapel, a mosque, a wooden pulpit, an altar, a Mayan temple, the temple of Mithras, the ruins of a monastery, a Cambodian Wat, a Budhist shrine, a Shinto shrine, a Friends' Meeting House, Stonehenge, pews, an Ancient Greek Temple, a Sikh Gurdwara, a Jainist Temple, the Waiiling Wall, The Mount of Olives, a Roman Catholic Retreat, a Reliquary containing holy relics, the roof of a basilica, caryatids on a cathedral, the local church, a Christmas Nativity scene, a tomb of a revered warrior, a Bahà'i House of Worship, Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes Shrine, Knock Shrine the location of a holy apparition in Ireland, a sacrificial altar, a circle of Neolithic standing stones or menhirs, a crucifix on a mantelpiece, a Mormon Meeting House, a Christadelphian Meeting House, a Rosicrucian Meeting House, a Jehovah's Witnesses' Kingdom Hall, a Masonic Lodge, St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Il Duomo in Milan, St Peter's cathedral in the Vatican City, The Panthéon in Paris, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Russell's Teapot - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free!

It would be a big help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used because it's interesting to know.

The rules are deliberately loose so go out and shoot with this month's theme in mind or start searching back through those pictures you took oh-so long ago that you'd forgotten about and start posting! It doesn't have to be your best ever shot and it's not a competition so you might surprise the rest of us and yourself - it's just about sharing some pictures, seeing others' take on the topic, and enjoying it!

Everybody's welcome to contribute, any interpretation, any number of posts, pictures that have been posted on the forum before, any equipment as long as it and the photo complies with the forum's rules of either camera or lens or both made by Leica. Please post freely - especially newcomers and please remember there's no judging or criticism (good or bad) in this threadSo, if you'd like to show your acknowledgement or appreciation that someone has posted their picture then instead of posting a comment please use the "Thanks" button that you can find at the bottom right of every post.

Please post away and I look forward to seeing your interesting interpretations of this month's theme.

Note: Moderator Pop has very kindly assembled links to all of the past Barnack's Monthly threads as a single archive that can be found here: Barnack's Monthly Index.  Thank you, Pop!

Santa Rosalia - Baja California Sur, Mexico by Eiffel. Here an interesting part of the story:

“Alexander Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame) had designed a pre-fabricated metal church in 1884 as a prototype for missionary churches in France's tropical colonies. Built in 1887 to be strong enough to withstand severe tropical weather, the church is made from galvanized iron. In 1889 the church and the Eiffel Tower were put on display at the Paris World's Exposition. Gustave won first prize for the church's design.

Years later, an official for the French Boleo Mining Company learned of the church being stored in a Brussels warehouse. He purchased it and had the church shipped to Santa Rosalía where it was reassembled in 1897. It was given the name 'Iglesia de Santa Bárbara'.
