They also protect from moisture with a silica bag inside. The only problem I see is that most Leicaphiles will have to budgetize at least 2000$ to accomodate their collection. about 28 small lenses (2000/70) 😉
Advertisement Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hi a.noctilux, Take a look here New Leica Lens Container. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cboy Posted April 13, 2022 Share #22 Posted April 13, 2022 21 hours ago, Steve Ash said: The purpose of the Lens Container is not display. What I like about them is that I can see what is inside rather than opening several leather cases do find the lens I am looking for. Further I think that the Lens Container is a better protection for the lens as they are exposed to light better protected against dust or moisture. During my extended absence from home I always felt uncomfortable that some of my lens were stored away in the leather cases. A leather bag I had with me in Brunei deteriorated by simply hanging in the wardrobe even though the A/C was continuously in dry mode. Nice way to display your lenses nonethless! Would be nice if they had space to put some silica desiccant. Where i live humidity is an issue so trying to store my gear @ <40% RH is important, which why i use a dry box or cabinet. Leather cases is one of the worst ways to store gear long term as i found out through my own experience many years ago. Lol
junix Posted April 14, 2022 Share #23 Posted April 14, 2022 (edited) Thank you @Steve Ash, I got one for my lonely Voigtlander Nokton Classic, now I officially have a plastic container that costs more than the lens. Kwesi Posted April 14, 2022 Share #24 Posted April 14, 2022 Just checked and the containers are the same price as the leather ones. Maybe Leica is phasing out the leather ones.

rsh Posted April 14, 2022 Share #26 Posted April 14, 2022 (edited) Back to the Future. My guess is that the current leather lens case is on the way out and the lens container will come with new lenses just like the old days. It will probably begin when the supplies of leather lens cases are depleted. Just my guess. Edited April 14, 2022 by rsh

The normal box comes in another box as usually. But as you can see the outbox was nicely wrapped in black thin paper closed with a Leica sticker. Some might freak out as there is no way to not destroy the black cover 😉. Unpacking goes from left to right. Do not wonder if there is no lens in the container. Welcome, dear visitor! NigelG Posted May 2, 2022 Share #34 Posted May 2, 2022 (edited) I had been wondering if there was an idea LUF members could come up with to counteract the constant negative price-based “Leicas are-so-stupidly-expensive-no-“real”-photographers-would-use-them” - bashing on most internet sites…but now realise an official $70+tax plastic coffer for a lens means we might need to “up our game”. PS - I’ll trade for the official limited edition Apple display micro fibre cleaning cloths 😂 PPS - will still probably buy some 🙄 Edited May 2, 2022 by NigelG

Phase One was 50K and nobody was complaining. I think it is the stigma that at this price Leica M bodies and lenses are not fully weather sealed together, are not extremely dependable (think EOS 1Dx toughness), nor offer a plethora of modern gimmicky functions, which in 2022 puts them in the odd "prosumer" category. But this is a flame war debate which is not happening under this cute "New plastic lens container" thread. I salute the idea of these lens containers. Fun stuff. Well IMO it’s not about weather-sealing etc (speaking as a 1dx user). The “M” world includes EVFs the price of decent POS cameras and lenses (looking at you M 35 APO) that for many non-users (note I didn’t say non-believers) are borderline crazy. It’s the “little things” that grate. $70 plastic storage sleeves fit into a world of $300 lens hoods, and $50 lens caps I end up paying… PS A replacement SS hotshoe cover for one of my M60s was over $100 PPS I admit to paying $350 for a specific lens hood so maybe…. LeicaS2 Posted May 6, 2022 Share #36 Posted May 6, 2022 These can work for me use. I have M lenses in a drawer with no lens cap on them as I just don’t use lens caps. Putting them in a plastic container allows me to see which lens it is, and can keep it dust free. I never used the leather case. Only issue is they are sold out. Jon Warwick Posted June 18, 2023 Share #37 Posted June 18, 2023 I haven’t bought yet any of these containers, albeit have an old one that came originally with a Summicron v3(?). For hiking with the lenses in my f-stop anja backpack, I’m thinking these containers might be quite useful for me. Better than the small lenses rattling around in the backpack. For hiking with the lenses in my f-stop anja backpack, I’m thinking these containers might be quite useful for me. Better than the small lenses rattling around in the backpack. As has been stated already, any container which seals the lens in should have dessicant inside - especially if it is to be used 'in the field' where a lens may be put away in humid conditions. I have never used either the leather cases Leica made nor these plastic containers. To me they might be ok for long terms storage with plastic bags and dessicant wrapping the lens in its leather case or dessicant inside the plastic container. But that's all. Not Leica bashing, but it would be nice if they actually thought about the practicalities of carryiage, storage and protection when lenses are being used. My lenses are used in camera cases inside rucksacks in use or inside a Pelicase with dessicant when not. No issues with any problems due to damp (I live in a damp location) as a result.
