As you can see in the following images I really like the newly released Leica Lens Container. I just received all that have been available in Germany (just kidding). I will buy another two. One to carry my Summilux 50 asph and another one as lens container in my photo bag.

The packing of the lens container is also interesting. The normal box comes in another box as usually. But as you can see the outbox was nicely wrapped in black thin paper closed with a Leica sticker. Some might freak out as there is no way to not destroy the black cover 😉. Unpacking goes from left to right. Do not wonder if there is no lens in the container.

What ?

later, you would regret not to have it.

No container for the Apo 135 ?

The Apo 135 is too long for the container.

SUMMILUX-M 21 f/1.4 ASPH. (11647)

SUPER-ELMAR-M 21 f/3.4 ASPH. (11145)

SUMMILUX-M 28 f/1.4 ASPH. (11668)

SUMMICRON-M 35 f/2 ASPH. (11673)

SUMMICRON-M 35 f/2 ASPH. (11674)

APO-SUMMICRON-M 35 f/2 ASPH. (11699)

NOCTILUX-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH., black (11686)

APO-SUMMICRON-M 50 f/2 ASPH. (11142)

SUMMILUX-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. (11688)

SUMMILUX-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. (11892)

SUMMILUX-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. (11891)

APO-SUMMICRON-M 50 f/2 ASPH. (11141)

SUMMICRON-M 50 f/2 (11826)

No container for the Apo 135 ?

I have one for my 135 mm Tele-Elmar, but it was delivered with the lens.

I have lens containers delivered with my old lenses,

never use them, after taking the lens out of the container, this one returned and stays in the box.

Good to know that Leica makes them again after decades of leather cases which followed just the "nude" lens in foam in the box period.

Unless one has a lot of spare cash, it's not worth it. Any container will do. In fact, why not this? Comes in many sizes and some with multi-colours lid options.

No container will also do (at least for me).

I'd agree with that.  The container was a nice idea with the reissued 50mm Noctilux but lenses are there to be used, not displayed.

I never used the leather cases either.  One lens on the camera, a couple more in my old Fogg bag, job done.

The purpose of the Lens Container is not display. What I like about them is that I can see what is inside rather than opening several leather cases do find the lens I am looking for. Further I think that the Lens Container is a better protection for the lens as they are exposed to light better protected against dust or moisture. During my extended absence from home I always felt uncomfortable that some of my lens were stored away in the leather cases. A leather bag I had with me in Brunei deteriorated by simply hanging in the wardrobe even though the A/C was continuously in dry mode.

In South East Asia humidity levels are very high. Keeping lenses in plastic containers is not enough. A humidity controlled dry cabinet is a must.
