stuny Posted August 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2006 Norbert - I tend to like monochroatic color shots, and this one is superb in hues, light, focus, DOF and composition.

norbertnl Posted August 15, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted August 15, 2006 Thank you for your friendly comments! The picture was taken on board a Super Fast Ferry, shortly after it had passed the Firth of Forth Bridge near Edinburgh. Super Fast is a Greek carrier. They run a daily direct ferry between Zeebrugge and Rosyth. I liked the large Greek flag in front of the famous Scottish monument: juxtaposition of different edges of Europe. Plus the blue and white is in the Sottish flag as well. Best, Norbert

biglouis Posted August 15, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2006 Norbert Terrific shot. I was puzzling for some time about whether or not there was a replica of the Firth of Forth bridge somewhere in the world until your explanation. uulrich Posted August 15, 2006 Share #11 Posted August 15, 2006 It's me again. :-) Undoubtedly it's a nice picture IMHO. I've said that. However, in my opinion it is most likely that this one would not sell and it would not win a prize. :- the Firth of Forth Railway Bridge is not sharp the coastal line does not show sufficient details it is the wrong flag (sorry) composition-wise there is room for improvement; the flag stick should either be visible or not; as shown here it is something in between, the flag stick in the upper right corner divides rather than adds, at least the part of the bridge on the left hand side looks like it bends over, caused by the lens the bridge is under construction and thus it does not make this image 'timeless' it would have been better if the flag, since it dominates the picture, would have been on the left hand side, or, if the bridge dominates and a smaller flag is on the right hand side, and it should have been the Scottish flag. If my entirely personal comments would have been worked in, the title would no longer withstand. I still like the shot and it's cool shot. I am also jealous what great sky you had. The colors are really beautiful. But I thought I also mention the glitches in case someone get illusions and thus I added this comment. However, everyone is invited to comment or torn apart my comments; I very much welcome the idea to discuss further.
