Is the Q2 still worth buying in 2022

This photo of Q3 is from Leica own Fotos app. So I guess that is more than legitimate. Q3 is certainly almost ready.

its still worth buying, someone posted a link to a video somewhere in which Leica says something about no new camera releases in 2022

Leica is not like Apple that kills off functionality with updates ;)

I watched the video. Jesko from Leica were just referring to the Leica rumors M11 announcement video weird analysis : showing three cameras under development.

Obviously Leica will not release everything. But he was quite unclear about future releases.

I would ask the question, what specifically does the Q2 NOT have that would cause you to not buy it? The Q2 is a great camera, and a Q3 is not going to change that. Maybe you should wait for a Q4 just in case the Q3 doesn’t deliver the specifics that you’re looking for.

what Q2 does not, that it should have ??

Easy, it does not have Maestro III. Only old Maestro II which was ok for 24MP Q SL or CL. But not for 47MP.

SL2 is much nicer than Q2 due to newer processor : way better AF, lower noise, more dynamic range and faster operation. Processing power is a absolutely critical in mirrorless camera.

I think that you can wait a few months to get a camera with a late 2019 processor instead of an early 2015 one.

Of course. Still the best Leica money can buy : cheapest  and smallest Full frame available from Wetzlar

+1!!  You get a 28 Lux PLUS a body with a high-resolution full-frame sensor for 1/4 - 1/3 what it would cost in the M-system.  In my view, perhaps the best all-in-one street kit available:  Set to manual zone focus with auto ISO/exposure and you can't miss.  You only need to keep it awake, but that's true for all the digital Leicas, I think.  The shutter is so silent no one will ever know you've clicked it--not even you some of the time.  The only reason to wait for the Q3 is so you can pick up the Q2 on a discount.

But I say go for it now--you won't be sorry.  Good luck!

I got a new Q2 Reporter this week. I think it is an excellent camera to go with my M10M.

Leica in France say no Q3 before 18 months, we’ll see

I am not so sure. The Fotos app glitch and some saying that Q3 were already on beta testers hands since the end of last year.
It may arrive sooner than later.
We’ll see.

Looks like a version of Fotos app were ready for Q3 beta testers : they were able to connect and to update Q3 through that special version. Unfortunately for Leica, some remnants of Q3 beta test were still visible into the final release of Fotos. Hence the Q3 image inside.
That’s why I think that it can come soon. Because it exists and it is actively use on the wild.

Zero reports of any new Q bodies in the hands of testers, and the only person to have seen the Q3 in development (Steven) said it was a loooong way from being ready. The app image is just a pre-visualization render that accidentally got slipped into the app. Leica is on record as saying no other new cameras will be released in 2022 – the M11 is all we get this year.

I have seen many nice pictures taken with the Q in 2022!

And Ebene older cameras !!

leica M8 ….

if you are not sure about the camera:

1. Book a workshop

2. go to a store and test one

3. rent one for the weekend

4. buy one used and if you don’t like it sell it again.

so many options to get in contact with the q2

have fun

I still think that the Q3 picture inside the Fotos app just prove that Q3 is actively under beta test.
Obviously for a proper debugging of prototypes. They would need to use the Fotos app. Hence the glitch.

When will it be available? Who knows. It can depends of a lot of factors : how advanced are the current prototypes. No major speed bump on the development. When the production can start. Is there enough parts available. Then ultimately wait the best launch window for commercial success.

Q3 may not be ready for 2022 (more than 3 years later). But it could be for 2023 (4 years later)

Let’s say that it may come within 6 to 18 months time frame.

I don’t buy it that Leica will not try to release multiple bodies in 2022. Other brands will try to launch a plethora of new products. Because demands was very high in 2021, but poor planning lead to very low productions. Therefore they are all trying to rectify that.

I am also pretty sure that M production line is different from other mirrorless. It is far more difficult to make an M than the others. So making Q3 alongside M11 should not be a problem at all.

Then remember that company always lie to us. They have to in order to sell current line up. Remember M8 ?  They swear to all gods that full frame is not possible. Guess what ? 3 years later : M9 were born.

So if you need a Q2. Better buy it used. Then sell it for almost the same price when Q3 will be available.

Average 4-year life cycle for all Leica cameras, and they don't like to release a new one too closely behind another new one: https://youtu.be/5Z3svKdID9A?t=824

A Leica spokesperson also directly discussed the rumors of new Q and S cameras, which I watched live – I think it was in the M11 Tech Talk. The person was discussing the rumors that started due to the part of the M11 Keynote video which showed a large product board with new products after Q2 and S3. This person addressed that rumor directly and said no new camera bodies in 2022 due to effort required for M11. They may have edited that out of the final non-live video because I can't seem to find it now.

I just bought a Q2 in the past couple of weeks, and despite reading all the rumors on this forum about a possible Q3 this year.

I bought one in part because I was able to get a good deal on a demo. But really I bought it because I wanted a Q2 and couldn't imagine what a Q3 could offer beyond the Q2. After using it a few weeks (~1500 images) I can report that I am still not sure what a Q3 could offer beyond the Q2. There will always be some new bell or whistle, but I buy Leica because Leica lacks a lot of bells and whistles. Folding down back screen - no thank you! 60mp - why?

I was actually a bit skeptical going in. I love my M so much - I couldn't imagine buying a camera with AF and an OLED viewfinder. But I needed something more rugged and water resistant and compact. And I find myself using it 50% of the time now - it is the perfect compliment to my M.
