Owning both lenses, I would disagree.

"Outperform" is a vague term, but I also have both (well, all three) and I don't think either of the 35 Summarons outperform this lens in any technical sense. They're excellent lenses for 1960, especially the f/2.8, but this is a modern lens.

He could have said he prefers the Summarons, and nothing wrong with that.

Did you try the lens with adapter for 35mm on an M? Do you need the typical adapter for 35mm with a recess to ensure that the focus-knob works? Or can you use adapters without recess?

I use mine on an M10-R and an MP with a Voigtlander 35/135 l-m adapter which has the recess, it works exactly the same as it does on my iiif.

I have not used it on an M adaptor but just tested it on one that doesnot have any cutouts and it Is ok, the infinity catch doesnot jam up.

Now i can confirm that the 35mm Adapter without recess shown above does not cause problems for focussing the lens🙂.

Some quick first examples with a LTM-mount version of the Heliar with adapter on the M10:

In the review linked in #99 the 40mm Heliar was compared to the 35mm Summaron. I think the obvious comparison would be the 40mm C-Summicron. I had a try with both. Strong crops, focussing with liveview and focuspeaking on the display of the M10. Both f/2.8

First the center:

Heliar:
