Removing all clear-Filters from my lenses stopped several issues I had previously:

• Visible double-images of highlights (moon) in night-shots with a Nikkor 2/85 AIs and other tele-lenses.
• Increased stray-light with just out of frame overcast sky with Summicron M 2/50 V and others.

I was using top-of-the line Schneider-Kreuznach Filters (B+W) at the time. I stopped using filters except I needed them for any kind of effect. That was at the end of the 90s. Not a single incident since then except that I take care to always use hoods and caps as I hate to clean lenses. There are vastly more lenses damaged in cleaning than use.
