Tele-Elmarit and Tele-Elmarit-M 90mm

Looking at some material offered on various websites I noticed that the so-called second version of the Tele-Elmarit 90mm for Leica M probably initially was named just that: Tele-Elmarit 90mm, also on its box. My own version is named Tele-Elmarit-M, on the box as well. So was the name changed during production, and if so, when did this happen? Does anyone know about this?

According to Thiele "Großes Fabrikationsbuch Leica-Objektive" 3.ed. 2020, the "M" was added to the "Tele-Elmarit" from No. 2 871 301 in 1977 onwards. 

Though as with many Leica items you may perhaps find the "M" already on lower numbers or higher numbers don't have it yet.

Yes, Lager too does report the change in writing with the addition of M , quoting "1980s" as introduction : the above Thiele s/n is more precise, I think : have seen recently a 2.94x.xxx (1978) with the M.
