At the Washington Monument covering the March for Housing (years ago), I encountered this woman who spoke eloquently to me about her life and situation while visitors streamed by. She continues to remind me of the contradictions of life, and the need to hear everyone's story. M4P 28/2.8 (canadian) on Kodachrome.

the only Madonna I know is Madonna Louise Ciccone, who's brother Tony worked with me a long time ago. He once was a good freelance photographer.

This sort of image is what came to mind during my conversation with the woman shown,  especially hands and shawl which are so expressive.
