Leica MP Viewfinder Replacement

Recommended Posts

Ever since I bought my Minolta CLE(dead now), I fell in love with its x0.58 magnification viewfinder. Now I've been looking for a silver MP with x0.58 finder for a while now, they seem pretty rare. Does anyone here have experience with sending the camera to Leica for a viewfinder replacement? If so, what's the process like and do you get your original finder back?

Thanks,

A

I have done it multiple times, I never got the old viewfinder back but I also never asked. So im sure if you ask nicely they will send you your old parts.
the experience was always great, I send them the camera with the info what I want to have done ( they have a form on their website ).
They check the camera, inform you  about other repairs etc that need to be done and then give you a price for everything.
After your confirmed they start with the repair / modification.
Last year their turnaround time was about 4 month for work like this.

In my opinion the 0.58 finder is the best you can get.

Hello

Does anyone know approximately how much a viewfinder replacement would cost ?

Also if one had, say, 0.85 or 0.58 and wanted to change to Leica’s ‘standard’ 0.72 MP viewfinder would it be easier / cheaper than changing to the less common magnifications, perhaps ?

EDIT: I have since found in another thread that it costs between EUR900-1200 (different people’s recent experience with different M models eg MA , M2 ) and takes 4 months.
