JimmyCheng Posted December 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 26, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those of you lack patience :p, here is a summary: It's small, light (similar to the 50mm f1.2 ASPH), with 0.7m MFD and is sharper in the center (by quite a margin) at inf than both the f1 and f1.2 Nocitilux. It has smoother bokeh than the two Noctiluxes, and renders color beautifully. Also, it's corner sharpness improves faster than the 1.2 and 1 when stopped down. Plus it is only 300 bucks (for now, since they don't have any marketing yet). I believe it is based on the original Zeiss planar 50mm f1.4 C/Y with some modification and better glass to make it an f1.1. If you want the detailed review, please check out my video. 6
Advertisement Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Hi JimmyCheng, Take a look here I might have found an ideal ultra fast 50mm, which could be the Noctilux killer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Parolibre Posted December 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2021 Great summary, Jimmy. My favorite VM lens is the current VM 50mm F1.2, which is an amazing lens both wide open and stopped down, and of course even better with its relatively low price comparing to Leica M lens. I got the exact same opinion ha! If you go back a few videos, I did review the vm 50mm f1.2 and considered it my favorite 50mm right now

vanGeist Posted January 1, 2022 Share #7 Posted January 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please stop calling every cheapo über-fast 50 a »Noctilux killer«. They are not. It's that simple. 8
jaapv Posted January 1, 2022 Share #8 Posted January 1, 2022 These are lenses, not a religion. If somebody builds an excellent lens a a minimal fraction of the price, call it anything you like. 3

pptmstr Posted January 6, 2022 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2022 Well done Jimmy, sent you an email. Also, makes me really sad to see all the haters on this forum, especially since I entered the Leica M world. I will happily shoot this small batch hidden gem on my M10-R Black Paint.

etzhar Posted May 31, 2022 Share #16 Posted May 31, 2022 Hi have just bought this little killer, sorry lens, and I love it. Actually use it as an addition to my SL lenses on Sl2-s. It does catch flare occasionally but I believe the Noctiluxes also do. its build is also quite amazing.
phototrope Posted May 31, 2022 Share #17 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) It would be really helpful to send some sample pictures. I didn't buy a Noctilux f/1.0 E58 because it's sharp, but because of the way it renders images at all apertures. A lens is not a "Noctilux-killer" just because it's sharper in the centre at f/1.1. To deserve that name, images taken by it would have to be as pleasing, or more, to my eye than images taken with a Noctilux. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the info about the new lens anyway. a.noctilux Posted May 31, 2022 Share #20 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) Even before the birth of Noctilux, more than a dozen of light gathering lenses were made for many formats. In my view nothing can "kill" Noctilux's myth or reality. a list ... So we will see again more "Noctilux-killers", who cares . Even two Noctilux are quite different from each other, when we use them along. Guess how I know this ? Edited May 31, 2022 by a.noctilux
