I did not think that the Nokton f/1.0 would replace my Summilux-M 50mm ASPH as my favorite M lens, and that has proven to be the case. There are times, however, when a whole stop of light is important, so, the Nokton f/1.0 is a valuable complementary/supplementary/alternate lens, with a nice rendering of its own.

An f/0.95 Noctilux, with its “beverage can” dimensions, would have been larger than desirable. The Nokton f/1.0 has a hefty diameter, but its overall length is quite reasonable. (My right hand is not aging well, so, I generally hold a camera/lens combo by grasping the lens barrel, so, some amount of diameter is helpful, and the scalloping/fluting on the focusing ring is an added bonus.)

The curious thing about this lens is that people who have compared it to its sibling the 50mm 1.2 nokton almost always tend to prefer the later.

I'm still on the fence. Owning a 50 lux, would like to add another fifty with different rendering and always focusing on portraiture. Those two Voigtlanders make me hesitate a lot.

For portraits i love the sonnar. Your (female) clients will love it too.

Hello all, it has been a while since I've posted on the forum with some gear. I finally bit the bullet on this lens, and after a few hours shooting around Montreal, I can see myself using this lens more often than not!

Bear in mind my experience has mostly been video, but thought I would share here regardless :)

Unfortunately, this great lens did not make it to the top ranks of M photographers.
