I hope it is a touch better than my Nocitlux 50mm ƒ1.0 E 58. I have the 75mm ƒ1.5 Voigtlander in silver, and the focus ring does not have much resistance. I like the lens and the way it renders. The VM 50mm ƒ1.0 look nice. @M Street PhotographerBesides it may be 3-4 months before I'm anywhere close to a store that may have them in stock.

Oh yes Adam, the coloring - fantastic! And the gradient in the dinosaur photo, that's what I like about the VC 50 1.0.

OK I'm going to post far too many images (sorry, but it felt like spring today and I had a time budget so I went a bit snap happy) and I'm back home now, so more light and colours!!

These are all shot with the M9 and AFAIK all wide open... I used a 2stop ND filter, which wasn't always enough (with the M10R you can nearly use no ND at all and trust in the exposure latitude, no such luck with the M9, but then it vignettes less than the 10R, so -as ever- win some/lose some when we compared two things that do the same job

hiting focus with the RF is as pleasing if the subject is moving as it is stationary 😅

I know I say so myself, but this snap somehow pleases me, again it took a few goes to get a sharp eye on the dog!!

Because things change yet stay the same (there's about 60 years between these two photos and yes if I practiced for 60 years mine wouldn't be as good!!)

OK so now it's been 10 days and maybe a 1000 snaps across two bodies, what do I think of the CV 50/1?

Well I won't rehash the excellent review on fredmiranda, just some random thoughts

- this is a BIG lens, sure it'll depend on what body you use and what other lens you have and it's lighter than the TTa and Noctilux 50/0.95 options, but it's a very significant size uplift over say a summilux 50 asph

- F1 and accurate focus is a bit of a lottery with the RF (and sometimes the 020 M10 EVF)

- Purple Fringing and flare, the 1st is easy to fix except for when it isn't and (even with the hood) flare can really run a photo. I'm transported back in time 30 years to my photography professor saying don't shoot into the sun Adam

^-----That's f**ked that is

- Bokeh... nice enough except for when it isn't... yeah sometimes the edges are sharper than the centre... as ever with photography it pays to pay attention to the background

- If I'm honest once the honeymoon is over... I suspect I'll be reaching for my 50 lux over this for anything other than a specific very shallow DOF need

- It's a good lens, the images are generally pleasing, the build feels robust (I can't imagine it would do well in a fall though)

- It's perhaps not worth the money... sure dirt cheap compared to any red dot glass, and a far better performer than anything 'F1-ish' from other cheaper manufacturers, but equally for 40ish% less money you could have the CV 50 F2 APO or 1.5 and what you'll give up in shallow DOF I suspect you'll gain heaps more on VFM

I'm very happy with it overall, but whereas 'one trick pony' would be a very harsh thing to say about a lens that stops down nicely and is well corrected with good IQ, you can equally find all of those attributes in other smaller, lighter and cheaper glass meaning that, for me at least there's probably only one trick I'm going to asking this pony to do... of course YMWV

I think if you're a shallow DOF lover then this lens could be the start of true love for you, but IMHO it's a little big and clunky to be one's sole 50mm on an M and (a bit like the 50 lux) the wide open magic dissipates quite quickly as the aperture ring is turned.

Maybe a little help for you too: I was traveling with the 75 Summarit and had the 1.4 viewfinder mounted. Whether near or far, no more misfocus. The EVF now stays at home for this. in the next few days I'll do the same experiment with the VC 50 1.0. Let's see if it goes similarly well - I'll report here.

That would be great

I'm not unhappy at my hit rate with the RF... dead centre and stationary and I hit more often than not, off-centre or focus/recompose and all bets are off !!!!

Ok a few more as I've been trying too shoot this lens as much as possible!!

All M10R this time

But speaking of the M10R, I've only had mine 2.5 months and the fact it can do this =

Hasn't gotten boring yet after the M9/240/M10

I'm not usually this lazy with an exposure, but I wanted to test it wide open (ignore F1.2 in exif) with no ND and it's saveable more or less at a pinch. Good to know.

Ok slightly less snappy snaps now!!

so again IMHO if one's idea of photography is shallow DOF, bokeh-tastic 3d pop and glow photos and you think that the Nokton F1.1 has ugly bokeh or the 7artisans has really weird bokeh (f*ck yeah it does) or you like the TTa 50/0.95 but you're concerned about quality and calibration or a Noctilux is an impossibly expensive unobtainable dream, then I think you're going to love the CV 50 F1...

Certainly it's an easy way to make flags, buoys, bicycles, gas tanks, benches, anything really into visual subjects, which they simply wouldn't be at F8.
