stout_trapdoor9 Posted March 20, 2022 Share #141 Posted March 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Received mine yesterday. Way too early for detailed initial thoughts, but will be testing it out as cherry blossom arrives shortly here in DC. It is of exceptional quality, the focus ring is nicely dampened. I am only a recent Leica buyer but I have the following lenses to compare it to: Voigtlander APO Lanthar 35/2 Voigtlander APO Lanthar 50/2 Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton 75/1.5 Zeiss Biogon 28/2.8 I have used but don't own the Leica Summilux 35. The Voigtlander lenses give me the same feeling as the Zeiss lenses I used to use with my Nikon setup before I switched to Leica. Well dampened and precise focus. This shot was done with a Leica M10M, Voigtlander 50/1, shot at f1 1/60s, ISO 250. Processed lightly to taste. There was not a lot of light in the kitchen, but what there was, was vacuumed up by the lens. Welcome, dear visitor! stout_trapdoor9 Posted March 25, 2022 Share #144 Posted March 25, 2022 (edited) Some shooting at high noon in ugly light part 1. Out of the box colours with the M11 are quite good. All photos shot wide open M11 with Voigtlander 50/1 Nokton. Welcome, dear visitor! robb Posted April 3, 2022 Share #149 Posted April 3, 2022 My copy arrived a couple of weeks ago but I was away with many projects in Florida and the Caribbean. So it was stuck at the post office til now… initial thoughts are that the packaging And included metal hood are very nice. Lens construction is very solid, smooth and tight. I’ll get out this week using it for some photos. I believe this lens will likely always be in my bag surrounded by my 24-90 and 90-280 SL2 or my 35 and 75 SL summicrons. Can’t wait to shoot portraits with this lens. Robb Welcome, dear visitor! stout_trapdoor9 Posted April 9, 2022 Share #150 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) Compare and contrast of shooting wide open versus stopping down. Leica M11 Voigtlander Nokton 50/1 ISO 6400 1/60s f5.6 The sunstars are OK but I didn't expect amazing results from a 12 blade aperture. It's nice and sharp stopped down. Welcome, dear visitor! stout_trapdoor9 Posted April 9, 2022 Share #151 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) Compare and contrast of shooting wide open versus stopping down, part 2 Leica M11 Voigtlander Nokton 50/1 ISO 3200 1/60s f1 Same processing used as previous post, colour curve plus slight lifting of shadows. When you shoot wide open the sunstars get smudgy and the chromatic aberration is pretty strong, you can see it pretty much everywhere on the water on the cars. Welcome, dear visitor! robb Posted April 22, 2022 Share #152 Posted April 22, 2022 Finally got a chance to shoot a bit with the 1.0 Nokton. Hard to nail focus for me even with the SL2 viewfinder and zooming in. Seemed easier to use than the SL Summilux 50 though for some reason. Maybe because the Nokton weighed less, was more compact, and had the right throw. I'll have to use it more So I can get the kinks out of my eyes... If the light is there, I'd probably grab an SL Summicron which would be easier to use quickly. A little CA is there in the Nokton but seems easy to fix. Bokeh seemed great to me. robb Posted April 22, 2022 Share #153 Posted April 22, 2022 I also tried the Nokton wide open with some non-portraits. Highlight bokeh seemed good - I liked the out of focus shapes on the water. robb Posted April 25, 2022 Share #155 Posted April 25, 2022 Distance was probably 50 feet. This is full frame without cropping. Robb

Robb 50 feet seems quite far, considering how much the couple fill the frame, but it may be difficult to estimate - and since I wasn't there, impossible for me to argue with you about it in any sensible way... 😅😁
robb Posted April 27, 2022 Share #157 Posted April 27, 2022 I have a number of projects to photograph in Georgia and South Carolina these next two weeks so I called up my friend Steve Hendrix to grab some lunch. I think we have been friends about 20 years. We always have a lot to share in talking shop. The 50 has a great working distance across a table and it is definitely easier to line up a background in tighter confines than the longer 75mm. And it has no real proportion exaggeration of the 35 focal length. So I definitely enjoy the 50 in the bag. Very nice background AND "front" bokeh can be seen here. I like the effect. Not sure a 50 summicron could have done this but an SL summicron would definitely had more in focus around the eyes. This Nokton has crazy thin depth - seemed like 2 mm.... at the eyes. Assuming you used M camera how did you manage off centre accurate focus, EVF or Crop? Edit, I see you used SL2-s 😅 Edited April 27, 2022 by mmradman
