Hello Phil,

Please keep in mind that:

"goggles" on an M3 with 0.91X image magnification becomes 0.6X image magnification. Quite usable with the depth of field of a 35mm lens.

With the image magnification of 0.72X of an M2: That becomes 0.48X image magnification. Still usable. But not quite the same.

Best Regards,

Michael

Thank you again Michael. This is really valuable information, which I'd never been aware of regarding the goggled lenses. The M3 sounds like the perfect match for them due to the higher image magnification.

Like Dave, I really don't track apertures although I'm sure I used f11 for my vertical shot of the stacked boats and canoe posted recently. I also had the yellow filter attached. Probably the same aperture setting for the earlier shot of the rowboats, too.

And Dave, those pictures with the DR summicron are stunning. That lens must be a very satisfying tool with its lovely qualities and close-focus ability. Thank you for posting.

Thank you.  I just got the 50 Summicron DR a week ago so still getting used to it, but so far it's great. I had a modern 50 Summicron but foolishly sold it with my M9; I think I like this older lens better than the newer versions. I've done a couple of close test shots with the googles on but nothing to post yet.

Thanks again,

Dave

I shoot with my old goggled 35 with my M10P.  With the goggles on there is a minor mismatch between actual and the viewfinder on this camera.  It's no big deal, I learned the offset and enjoy working with this lens.

Picture of, not with, my 35 f/3.5 Summaron on the M10P.  When I was buying it I noted the trim ring mounted upside down.  Apparently disassembled and then reassembled incorrectly at some point.  I'm completely happy with the imaging though, so I'm not going to monkey around "fixing" the trim ring.

There's some exceptional photos being posted here, attesting to the sublime qualities of these goggled lenses. And they are fine looking lenses, too! It'd be great to see more - pictures both of and with them!

This one (below) was taking advantage of the closer-focus attribute of the 35mm summaron:

Wet leaves on a glass top table.

50mm Summicron DR with goggles at closet focus (about .46 meters) Click on the image and then zoom in to see the detail this lens with goggles can capture, not bad for a 61 year old lens.

That's a lovely looking radio, Rog. Those tubes look original, too, possibly WWII joint army/navy (JAN) vintage.

Tragically, the photos I'm seeing from the 50mm DR Summicron are ringing the GAS alarm bells!

Thanks for the salute. My father was a WWII Army Air Force veteran and built this radio from scratch for a console that had a record player, also.

I certainly appreciate you starting this thread, which has far reaching implications.

Phil,

That is the problem with threads such as this, the GAS kicks in big time.
