As my only camera now is a Leica Digilux 2 I thought it might be interesting to try some of the newer noise reduction software eg. Topaz and DxO PureRaw to see if the file quality at higher speeds can be improved. As the Digilux raw files are 'RAW' out of the camera, I had assumed I could simply use the Adobe DNG convertor to change them to DNG. Having tried this (today, with a free trial of DxO PureRaw) it will not open the converted DNG files (DxO does not even 'see' the Digilux RAW files, so can't open them) - a message says the files are not supported, or have already been processed in DxO PureRaw or are corrupted. I seem to recall this happened with another raw program last year, but I can't remember which. The odd thing is that the files will open without problem in Camera Raw & Photoshop. Has anyone found a way around this issue?

Hi williamgm,

have a look at my question a few weeks ago and in particular the answers. It may help you with your question.

Many thanks for your reply, it's obviously not as simple as doing a quick conversion via Adobe DNG convertor. A bit more research needed, I think.......

DNG isn't as universal as Adobe would have you believe. Some applications won't support converted DNGs if they don't support the original in-camera raw format. Others will work with the in-camera raw but have problems with the converted DNG. I imagine Topaz will work, because you can use it as an Adobe plugin, and your raw files are supported directly by PS/ACR. Don't know about standalone mode.

Thanks, I'll have a look at Topaz though the system demands might be a bit more than my 2012 MacMini will be happy with.
