SL becomes a reasonable street camera with small lenses

Took the Sigma 90 and APO 35 along today.  The SL2 feels really different, regular with a small lens.  It's front-heavy with the APOs or zooms, like an S or an X1D with their heavy lenses.  Just plain normal with a Sigma prime.  Really worth trying -- you'll think you got a new camera!  Such an unusual light feeling and you appreciate the shape anew.

To me, street photography and autofocus go together like roquefort cheese and boxer shorts! I never use my SL glass when I am shooting street with the SL. I use M glass at f8 or f11 and set the range so everything is in focus where I want it to be. There is absolutely no faster way to take a photograph than that, and things disappear so fast in the street that you barely have time to compose the frame and press the shutter, never mind waiting for the camera to decide what it wants to focus on.

Try a Summaron M 5.6 if you want something really light and fast for street use with the SL.

I use both the SL2 and the Q2M in the street, love them but I still think an M is probably the ultimate for this kind of work.

I’m more of an Overgaard school of street so prefer a Noctilux or 50 APO on an M, and indeed it’s the best for M.  But a fast AF with a Sigma 90 is refreshing!  Will have to try with other Sigmas as well…
