Can you Explain TTL on the SL with Flashpoint V1 Flash

it looks like a Nikon connection, but it is a leica only connection. they have switched 2 contact so that nothing else works.

at this point no other flash manufacture has come out with a flash that works like the native one. it is a dispute over money and licensing, and the consumer losses in this case.

It goes for all Leica system cameras - full functionality only with Leica branded flashes.
The reason is understandable: Leica had to create a whole new flash protocol for the M8, as the exposure metering is off the shutter blades and cannot be off the sensor; it is too shiny. For compatibility reasons they have to use the same protocol for all their designs. However, Leica is too small a market for flash makers to offer a dedicated flash at a similar price to say, Nikon, Canon,Sony etc.
Thus Leica has to order small series of custom-made flashes with Nissin and Metz, which drives the price up and forces customers to stick with Leica branded flashes.

Sounds like a really lame excuse. The only "custom" part is the firmware and the outside box. That doesn't justify asking 2x or 3x the normal price.

It's even worse if you consider that the L-Mount Alliance is using two different flash protocols, Leica on one side, Panasonic (and Sigma) on the other.

It is not an excuse - What else could they do? The flash system adopted on the M8 was the only solution. A brilliant one too. Leica had a given protocol for the M system, they opted to keep that given protocol throughout the range of their system cameras, as compatibility is a core value to them. The L mount alliance has nothing to do with flashes, only with lens mounts and the attendant software. Nor are they marking the flashes up to an unreasonable extent - if anything blame the flash manufacturers for charging a high price for small orders and not licensing the Leica protocol, like they do with other, larger manufacturers.

I think Leica doesn't care about lighting, it shows in the product offering. it is more an available light company.

As a professional I like to use professional tools to create and shape lite. By  not adapting to the Profoto and Elinchrom tools Leica is a semi professional tool.
