I still think these first pictures look best and most natural. Especially picture #3 here looks great I think!

Don't you think that's a bit like photographing the bride's beaming smile and not mentioning the lettuce caught between her teeth because it's 'just how the photo came out'? Obviously there can be the crossover between natural and un-natural, but if the aim is to show the hot rod to its best should nature be the deciding factor?

I'm not saying it can not be done better, but I still prefer them over the other attempts so far.

the 3d pic looks great mainly because there is no multi-colored sky ;)

i agree… it was such an epic sunset that it just doesn’t look real/accurate and I wasn’t a good enough photographer to really take advantage of it. Sure was fun trying though.

in any case, thanks for all the help fellas!

Here's the whole set... Regardless of my mistakes, there are still some images here I like... And I consider it a pretty good outing given it was my first shoot in two years with a camera body I've never used. Not making excuses, but keeping a positive outlook to keep motivation up...

I do absolutely adore shooting m-lenses on this body.

Some of those start to rock nicely!

When you still had the light, or simply made more dynamic compositions (especially working with the details).

Dashboard through the rear window wouldn't be out of place as an "essay detail" in Hot Rod. ;)

Or you could go into Photoshop and mask the car so you can adjust the relative brightness (or darkness) of the car or the background instead.  My experience is that the eye is drawn to the lightest part of the image.  Adjust the brightness relationship of the car to the rest of the image until it suits you.
