Picked one up today. It magically appeared in a store close to me.

That image looks superb. Smooth background blur, good subject sharpness, and close up ability. Looks like it will be a toss up between this and the Panasonic 24mm f1.8. I have the Panasonic 50mm f1.8 already but they are pretty slow in releasing the rest of these important focal lengths. One online test suggests that the Panasonic lenses focus better in video but the Sigmas may focus more reliably in stills, which is a little surprising.

No doubt someone will compare the Sigma 24mm f3.5, f2, and the Panasonic 24mm f1.8 in the future. Meanwhile, I've just bought a Minolta MD Rokkor X 24mm f2.8 for my S5 to use until all lenses are available and tested, and prices come down.

I just bought the pana 24mm f1.8 instead of the sigma, mostly due to focusing, but honestly i dont know if it makes a difference with leica cameras. I had a Panasonic s1 and the focusing was night and day difference between Pana and sigma lenses when using AFC, (this for photo, for video was even bigger the gap). Sigma lenses pulsed like crazy, of course if you are using only AFS it doesnt make a difference.

But is this also a difference when using them with leica cameras?

How is the AFC behavior of this lens when mounted on a sl?

I guess is a matter of expectations, i used the 35mm 1.4 dg dn and the 35mm f2.0, which are much newer than the 1424mm i used to have and found it as well disappointing. This on a S1 with the latest firmware. Also had a 45mm dg dn, but that one is known to not have a good autofocus and of course same was the case. 

This is the main reason i am staying away from sigma lenses, (I buy them and always end selling them) sad cause it would save me at least 250 euros instead of buying the pana version. I also prefer the sigma construction; these new lenses feel wonderful to use.

Ok, I forgot to mention that I altered the c-af settings on my S5. Maybe that helps

Nice, it looks to be a great option. I’ve never really loved the 23mm Summicron especially for close-up portraits where it defaults to f2.8. I assume this Sigma maintains f2 throughout?
