Can we have a little appreciation thread of this little buddy?

I will start with some shots just for bokeh 😝 :)

Are there significant differences between the 40/2 Summicron and Rokker versions of this lens?

I've never used the Leica version as I was just barely able to afford a used but minty M8 from a friend.  I have the 2nd version of the Minolta 40mm f/2 Rokkor in excellent shape which I picked up for a little under $400 shipped. The second photo was handheld at 1/45 after sprinting into position and I was still pretty happy with the result.

There are two versions of the Rokkor lens. The first version is identical to the Leica lens except it has a 40.5mm filter ring. The Leica lens has an odd non-standard size filer ring. I have the first version Rokkor and I love it.

The second version Rokkor is supposed to be the best of the three 40mm f2 lenses because it has better multi-coating. I have not used this lens, but I believe the claims of better coating to be true.

The Leica version filter size is 39 x 0,75 (E39 is 39 x 0.5).

The 39 x 0.75 thread pitch of the Summicron 40/2 was not for filters but for a rubber hood which retained Series 5.5 filters. Now it is possible to use regular 39 x 0.5 filters on it w/o tightening them too much. As for lenses, the Rokkor 40/2 v2 for Minolta CLE has a bit less flare indeed but the difference is not huge TBH. It has a regular focus cam too contrary to the sloping one of the Summicron. Never got focusing issues with the latter though. Not so true with the Rokkor v2 that may require some calibration on Leica Ms i've been told. Mine works fine though. Beware that its helicoids are aluminum, not brass apparently, contrary to the Summicron. The latter is heavier though: 125g vs 105g for the Rokkor v2. Both great lenses anyway. My only gripe is their focus knob but it is a matter of tastes of couse. I much prefer the Summicron 35/2 v4 from this viewpoint and because i don't like much 50mm nor 35mm frame lines with 40mm lenses on M bodies since the M8.2. Not a problem on mirrorless cameras of course. FWIW.

One of the first shots with the M-Rokkor 40mm on my then new M240. A smooth background and nice colours. I used it a lot on the M8 (but alas had no UV/IR filter for it, so I was very happy the quality was so great.)

On the Monochrom:

[Fabuloso. Great Value.]

Both at F2.0 . Great sharpness into the corners .
