I agree !

I have had four cameras (M1, M6, M10, and Nikon F) with the same terrible design.

Thank goodness I have never lost my base-plate or been tempted to eat my young. However, I prefer using cameras that do not require me to remove my camera from a tripod just to change film, access a battery, or change memory cards.

You seem to habitually make the same mistake with choice of camera, or is the problem one of using a tripod? I say that in jest. No offense intended. I'm just being a smart arse. 😁

All depends on who wears the pants. 🤑

Or the skirt and blouse.

Figuratively speaking, there appears to be a fair amount of cross dressing going on in Amerikan marriages these days.

You might want to try the base plate from Really Right Stuff. Works perfectly! (I don’t use the “L” component )

“The BM10 base replaces the Leica base.”

Just looking at your suggestion of the Basic RRS baseplate as an alternative bottom plate on an M-10R.
Their website doesn't explain or show it too well, but how does their plate "attach and detach" from the M-10R? I do see there is a Tripod mount,
in the middle area, but I wonder if there is a Bolt or something that turns to lock the plate onto the camera body like the Leica plate does?

Perhaps the Leica Chicken should change his name to the Leica Cock.

Yes. It fastens to the tripod socket with a folding head bolt.

Thank You. I see, so the usable tripod mount must be relocated. The RRS product photos are fairly bad for a company selling Photography gear IMO.

With a RRS plate the tripod screw on the camera body isn’t used.
It uses something like this on the tripod:

Speaking of a baseplate — I just got my first M10-R and there seems to be a plastic under the baseplate that was supposed to be peeled off, but it doesn't come so easy. Can someone confirm is this supposed to be pealed off or that's the finish of the plate? I don't want to destroy it if it's supposed to stay there.

It is not supposed to peel off. It protects the plate. Leica will even renew it if you send it in for service and it’s gone.

Glad that I asked. I'd remove it a possibly destroy the plate, or at least make it look ugly. Thanks!
