Leica NJ Service On Non-USA Leica Products

I've heard Leica NJ will not do warranty work on cameras and lenses unless they are purchased in the USA. Can anyone verify this?

I would expect them to honour any valid international Leica warranty.

What I heard was that this was an effort to cut down on gray market sales. 

I have no doubts about Leica Wetzlar honoring warranties, regardless of where purchase was made.

Leica will honor the warranty on anything Leica and Leica USA will handle shipping and arrangements.
