Henry Taylor Posted July 11, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been watching this little guy the past few days sitting on a branch next to my feeder . Every morning when I go out on the patio he's there. Interesting, I finally figured it out. He guarding his feeder from other hummimgbirds This is his, and any other hummingbird that is not his friend will have to fight him for it. Welcome, dear visitor! david strachan Posted July 11, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Nice ones Henry. Left and right mug shots I prefer a "natural" setting, like yours, rather than bird feeder included. I'm envious of N America's Hummingbirds...we don't have any in Australia. Edited July 11, 2021 by david strachan
Henry Taylor Posted July 11, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted July 11, 2021 David thanks for you nice reply. I'm sorry to hear that down under they don't have Hummingbirds, I guess its too far for theses little fellows to fly. I know here when they head south for the winter they have to fly over the gulf of Mexico, Hummingbirds can travel across the entire Gulf of Mexico in one night, which is around 500 miles. They usually gas up by consuming more food the week before, The males leave first and only the strongest will make it make it, survival of the fittest you might say.Tally-ho. war Posted July 11, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2021 These are beautiful photos. I've never gotten a shot of a humming bird perched, always hovering. It's nice to be able to study them "frozen in time".

Henry Taylor Posted July 11, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted July 11, 2021 Thank you War and Bill for your comments. My new Sigma shooting at 400 mm really made the difference. Still working on getting them in flight now with the new lens should be a lot easier, I hope.
