Thanks, it's all clear now. That looks like a neat device. I didn't know about it.
This also explains why the M-A seems to be the only camera to have the notch.

Very simple, it hides the hole access to adjust the shutter without opening the camera.

Two users possible, when in production and when in "CLAed" or if the user wants to diy finetuning shutter ...

some people love the Hammertone finish (i'm definitely not partial to it too) - as a positive it hides scratches & dents

I've never notice this, shiny chrome around shutter button .

Had a look at the M4 BP, it is there even it never bothered me in so many years of using it.

 

On black M-A Leica had good taste to return to black ring as on black chrome M4 😄
