Just FYI - the 75 Nokton's "other" character. M10, ISO 200, f/4.0, at about 3m. Full image and then crop.

Adan, that looks fabulous. I'm currently waiting for my 2nd Voigtlander lens, scheduled for delivery Weds. It's a 50mm f/2.0 Heliar Nickel, an LTM but comes with a converter. Image samples were very impressive.

As I mentioned to Adan in the above post, I'm waiting for a used Voigtlander lens that is arriving tomorrow--a limited edition 50mm f/2.0 Heliar Nickel. When I saw it listed I did a lot of research and every comment was a rave. I asked the seller for sample images shot wide open and the one posted here is the one that convinced me to get it. He shot it with his M10-D.

I've had the Nickel Heliar for several years, and it is a gorgeous lens (looks like a rigid Summar) and makes nice images. Do beware of the pronounced focus shift as you stop down. The focus on mine is right-on wide open, but even one stop closed moves the focus point back enough to notice. You learn to compensate though...

One of the critiques I read said this was a problem with the original versions released in 2006 for the 50th anniversary of Cosina. My version is one that was re-released in 2010 in an edition of 600 to commemorate the 10 year partnership of Cosina and Voigtlander and is supposedly better with the focus shift. We shall see.

Thanks!

Mine is also one of the 600 from 2010. My tip: don't look for focus shift - just enjoy the lens!

It arrived this afternoon and from some early shots I have to say I'm not at all disappointed. We're getting a lot of rain so I won't be out and about with it for a couple of days.

I have heard of Heliar 50/2 and Heliar 50/3.5 but i have never seen an Heliar 50/1.5 so far...

In post #122 fotografr mentions he was awaiting delivery of a 50mm f2 so perhaps the f1.5 was a typo?

Philip.

Entirely my error. It's a 50/2. Apologies. I have corrected the post.

M10M, 50mm Nickel Heliar f/2.0 wide open

Must say I am very impressed with these shots. The only Voigtlander I have as yet is the old 40mm f1.4 Nokton Classic, which I love, especially on the M10. I will definitely try to audition the 50 Heliar if I can. Luckily, Voigtlanders, new and used, are pretty easy to find here in Japan.

Thanks for posting!

This morning the Asiatic Lilies pictured above popped open and they are beauties.

Hi, quite impressive performance on a low-res body, I think ... (M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Apo-Lanthar 2/50 f 4; crop upscaled from 652 K to 1014) :

I was really curious to see how the 50mm Heliar Nickel f/2.0 stacked up against the highly regarded 50mm Summilux ASPH, long one of my favorite lenses. I shot a few frames of these lilies with each lens set at f/2.0 on my M10M and tried to process them as similarly as possible. This is by no means a highly controlled scientific comparison, but I think I prefer the overall rendering of the Heliar, even though the Summilux image is clearly sharper. The top image is the Heliar, the bottom is the Summilux.

To me it looks like the Summilux has more 3D pop (that may result from the Summilux being the sharper lens, at least at this aperture). I do own a collapsible Heliar myself (as well as a Summilux 50 asph), and while it is a nice lens generally, I think that CV may have stretched things a bit too far with an f2 lens having just 5 lens elements. Mine does not see much use now, as I prefer the Elmar-M 2.8/50 whenever I want to use a collapsible lens (it is sharper and more contrasty) and the Summilux when more speed is needed.

I would agree that the perception of more "pop" with the Summilux is due to the sharpness. Unlike the Heliar f/3.5, my f/2.0 version is not collapsible.

Seems to be focused on the leaves rather than the squirrel.  Depth oF field is v narrow, unless you are back focused.
