mmradman Posted June 27, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2021 Aged look, do you have preference? Aged due to use or application of abrasive paper?

jaapv Posted June 27, 2021 Share #5 Posted June 27, 2021 I've tried to wear my Black Chrome one out since new (2012) and this is as far as I got... Likaleica Posted June 30, 2021 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2021 The monochrom does not have paint. It takes a LOT of wear on a black chrome camera to show brassing.
Tp2000 Posted June 30, 2021 Share #9 Posted June 30, 2021 Suppose this is as good a time as any to share these from last year. Short version - our cat took my m10m for a run around the garden after getting spooked by our daughter. It somehow caught my camera strap around its neck and yanked it out of my hand (dislocated thumb in the process). 2 laps of the garden, chased by me, with the camera bouncing off paving stone and the side off the house left it looking like this. To the credit of Leica, whilst the screen didn't work, everything else did and I had my very own M10M-D for a little while. Back to Wetzlar for (a lot of) TLC and came back as new. So what this shows you is a) watch your cat b) even with some serious abrasion, you'll have a way to go to wear down the finish c) these really are far more robust than you'd imagine (given I could focus and capture images perfectly well after this) If you do want to speed up the aging process, my cat is available for hire. jankap Posted June 30, 2021 Share #11 Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) And that was your cats work only???? The word "cat" is meant political, I assume. Its real mother was a tiger or perhaps a lynx? A friend of mine kept one or more wolves. He wanted to observe their behavior. To prevent, that his neighbors got frightened, he claimed them as czech shepherd dogs. Its real mother was a tiger? Yup - Cat only, camera was 2 months old at that stage (and am pretty gentle with most of my cameras!). Cat thinks he's something between a Leopard and a Lion....hard to tell some days. Culprit below (taken with the M10M and 28mm SLX) Welcome, dear visitor! mujk Posted June 30, 2021 Share #14 Posted June 30, 2021 The black chrome on the M10 is quite durable. After more than three years of active use it looks like this. Sharp edges are getting slightly gray. The bigger dent on the thumb rest is from an accident. The black paint M9 shows brassing and has become polished in several places after about six years of use. Brassing looks nicer than the grey shining through, but in my opinion it should be a sign of use - not created artificially. Welcome, dear visitor! Stephen.s1 Posted June 30, 2021 Share #18 Posted June 30, 2021 Is that brass or zinc under the black chrome? The cat looks quite proud of itself.
NigelG Posted June 30, 2021 Share #19 Posted June 30, 2021 The black chrome plating is over satin nickel plating (over the base brass casting)
dkmoore Posted July 1, 2021 Share #20 Posted July 1, 2021 It’s funny, Leica uses durable black chrome that resists wear from everything except a leather camera strap. 😂😂😂😂😂 2
