dkCambridgeshire Posted June 8, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) And this is the previously mentioned £125 ebay bargain Vintage Yashica 1000mm f11 mirror lens mounted on the Panasonic S1R via a Novoflex LET/CONT adapter ... in front for size comparison is a Yashica 500mm f8 mirror lens. Most mirror lenses have inadequate lens hoods ... far too short compared to e.g. those supplied with telephoto lenses ... which is one reason why mirror lenses' images show too low contrast. The Yashica 1000/11 will be used with the TS Optics (Telescope Services) 'wrap around' telescope 'dew shield / lens hood' to improve image contrast; its diameter adjusts via Velcro tabs. Yashica 1000mm lens is sufficiently compact for town centre use for proposed Peregrine Falcon project ... they are resident on a local church steeple. Yashica 1000mm focus is surprisingly smooth and its gearing permits very fine focus adjustment. It's built-in 1/4" thread tripod plate is inadequate; when used on a gimbal, an Arca plate will be added. However, camera / lens combination is usable "semi-handheld" via a Novoflex fork mount on a Gitzo tripod ... fork mount permits very efficient handheld panning and tilt ... and S1R's image stabilisation set to 1000mm works fine. The Yashica 1000mm and 500mm mirror lenses were made by Kyocera ... http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Contax/Yashica_lenses Kyocera also manufactured some of the later Leica R zoom lenses e.g the R 80-200mm f4 Welcome, dear visitor! Alan Friedman Posted June 9, 2021 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2021 The central obstruction is also responsible for the lower contrast compared to a fully refractive optic. But image processing might improve this and it certainly has significant portability advantages. 1
