luigi bertolotti Posted June 4, 2021 Share #21 Posted June 4, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thans but... I love it... when digital entered I got a Summicron asph just to be "up to date"... 😉, and do confess that use it more often... (I still have more prints from M2-M4 than from M8_M240, taken with it) but the feel of the Lux is special... 😎 Edited June 4, 2021 by luigi bertolotti

jaques Posted June 5, 2021 Share #23 Posted June 5, 2021 (edited) jeepers. I could have bought a few of these lenses just a few years back for under 4k. I used to think that was too pricey. The other day you asked about rare lenses i have Steven. I forgot to mention one: it's not a rare lens (50 V3 summicron) but it's also a one of a kind- possibly a modified Leice prototype for a m5 safari... there is an old thread from this forum that shows how I stumbled onto the story of the lens care of Luigi: Welcome, dear visitor! jaques Posted June 5, 2021 Share #24 Posted June 5, 2021 well- it sounds like you are doing alright Steven 😁 if you can afford a back up- you must be doing something right. have a look at my summicron 50- the lever on it is like one from a movie lens. In fact I have a feeling I have seen a lever exactly like it before on some cine lens or camera... I love it- the look and the fast action- but am considering offering it for ale- as I just came across an identical normal lens. If I can cash out now and get a premium for my modified one- I could do with the cash. If not I'll hold. I had Westlich ask after it's provenance with Leica but apparently there were no records of the mysterious M5 Safari or lens from the Sartorius collection... LJB007 Posted April 15, 2023 Share #25 Posted April 15, 2023 On 6/3/2021 at 9:33 AM, Steven said: Hello, Your lens most likely is one of the last infinity lock version. The infinity lock tab on your copy is made of aluminium, I suppose, and not brass like the very early ones. Marco Schouten has an infinity lock for sale right now with serial number 2222007 and it is an aluminium one. It means that it is a regular V2. It's not considered in the early batch that resembled the steel rim anymore. But in my opinion it's likely a keeper, as I much prefer the earlier ones than the German mades ones, from later productions. I think your lens is the same as regular early production V2, but for having a rare infinity lock, you get a little premium on the resale value. In terms of value, as of June 2021, it goes a little like this, in a decreasing order: - Black Steel rim V1: around 40k - Chrome steel rim V1: 15-20K - Early V2 infinity lock BRASS: 5-6k - Early V2 infinity lock ALU: I suppose around 3,5 to 4,5K - Late German V2 (including the titanium version): 3-4K - Mid Canada V2: 2-3,5K, depending on condition I personally have loved every one I tried, but my favourites are the earlier. I didn't enjoy my titanium copy, but I know some respected forum members who have been using the Titanium one happily for over a decade, so it all depends on taste This is fascinating thank you, I guess the prices are up a little now from 2020. Could you let me know how the addition of the goggles affects value? In the family we have a steel rim no. 1777… with goggles and I wonder if this reduces the value of the lens. Many thanks.
