Yup. The Wharf's changed a lot but the fish market is still there.

I used to go shooting fish (with my camera ;) ) quite often. But the last time I was there, the whole area was under construction; so, I never returned after. Good to see DC renewing.

The locals don't like all the changes! As we speak, Phase 2 of the Waterfront District development is underway.

I can't blame them. That area with Capitol and all the federal bureaux is very especial and should keep some kind of character. When I moved from Europe to DC, Washington was very different. Some places may be better, but some others not so. But I guess this is how the whole world moving to!...

BTW, it's really nice to have you among us. We really needed a lady photographer with talent to inspire us. ;)

I think you just nailed it. Rich people move into these neighborhoods because of the character (U Street, H Street, Shaw, The Wharf, etc) and then immediately try to change the area because they decide they don't necessarily like all the character. There was a little corner store in the Shaw neighborhood that played Go-Go music (DC's native sound) really loud, all day and all night. Some of the rich residents decided they didn't like it and tried to get it shut down. Epic fail.
