Advertisement Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Hi biglenslittlelens, Take a look here Shutter failure. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 8, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 8, 2021 The camera is in Leica's service program. AFAIK the only unavailable part is the sensor. Mine is getting a new LCD right now.
biglenslittlelens Posted May 8, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted May 8, 2021 That’s good news…will be timing the Leica repairer here in Aus Monday morning ASAP.
Adam Bonn Posted May 8, 2021 Share #4 Posted May 8, 2021 Out of curiosity... how many shutter actuations?
biglenslittlelens Posted May 8, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted May 8, 2021 Not sure, how do I tell with this camera. It’s not heavily used so nowhere near my other gear so pretty surprised.
ianman Posted May 8, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 8, 2021 IIRC it's in the service menu (or maintenance menu?) You access it by entering the following sequence: Delete once up twice down four times left three times right three times info once
Adam Bonn Posted May 8, 2021 Share #7 Posted May 8, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ianman's suggestion is best, but you can also extract a hex value from the exif of a dng and convert it into a numerical value using an online calculator
jaapv Posted May 8, 2021 Share #8 Posted May 8, 2021 Shutters don’t wear down but tend to fail catastrophically. Sometimes through a piece of grit, sometimes without apparent reason. The shutter count has little relevance in this context. Expected shutter life of the M is 150.000 actuations.

Nikon and Canon's pro DSLRs are rated at higher shutter actuation life expectancies; apparently that is not something to lose much sleep over: https://improvephotography.com/46433/long-dslr-last/ This thread makes me wonder what Wetzlar charges for an M camera shutter replacement surgery; does anyone know? jaapv Posted May 8, 2021 Share #10 Posted May 8, 2021 On an optimistic note: There may not be a need to replace the shutter. It happens from time to time that the nylon actuator "finger" gets stuck. The technician only has to give it a nudge, maybe apply a minuscule drop of lubricant and all is well again. This is the M8 Anatomy thread, but the M9 internals are quite similar. However, if the shutter itself must be replaced, it is another story. Although the part costs less than 200 Euro, the camera has to be completely dismantled, which is not cheap. I would guess that a price of 750-1000 Euro including VAT (Guess!!) would be a realistic expectation.

jaapv Posted May 9, 2021 Share #13 Posted May 9, 2021 Unfortunately I cannot say as the final price is the outcome of an email exchange.

The question is what Jaap paid relative to original quote, not revised quote he challenged.

They took the service history of the camera into account which made some work superfluous.
