Thanks for posting. I enjoyed it all. I remember doing the length of 66 with a strip map prepared by Conoco with the locations of all of their services stations along the route.  The trip across the desert was not to be attempted without a full tank of gas and a canvas water bag hung on the front of car to provide water in the event of radiator overheating.

You just dated yourself. I made that trip before the interstate roads were complete.

That's really cool war, can you give me an idea of what year that was? And I agree, heading thru the desert in southeast California can get pretty scorching.

Best,

First trip 1952 in a Chrysler Windsor. Later between Fort Leonard Wood (Rolla, Waynesville) and Chicago, too many times. Photos with a TLR Ciro-flex. If I can find negs, I'll scan them to post. Regards

1970 in a Mustang from Port Hueneme, California to Davisville, Rhode Island. It was a long trip.

Tim,

Remarkable, elegant, and much needed documentation for our time. Road tripping was a tradition for those of us with Midwest roots. You paint the evidence of great optimism - before the focus was blurred by change. Well done.

This is an excellent documentary, which obviously brought many memories.

I drove part of the 66 as an extension to a trip to Grand Canyon. I can highly recommend the winding part between Kingman, AZ and California, via Sitgreaves Pass.
