How not to start an unintended video recording (X and X Vario)

The video recording button on the X and X Vario camera is both sensitive and in a rather awkward place. I’ve read that I’m not the only one grumbling when touching the red button and accidentally starting a video recording. I’ve found an easy way to prevent this and would like to share it here. A while ago I bought a box with rubber O rings in all sizes. One of the smaller ones fits the recording button perfectly. It is just a bit lager so it doesn’t interfere when pressing down this button when you actually do want to start recording video. I flattened one side of the O ring down using sandpaper and took about 1/3 of the ring thickness off (just over half of height remaining). I glued the ring carefully on the camera using a small amount of rubber glue (actually two component rubber repair glue) evenly spread out on the rings circumference. I deliberately did not use super glue since I suspect this will damage the camera’s black finish. So far, after about 6 months of use, it has proved to be very durable. And more important: no more accidental video recordings. When I do want to make a video recording (usually with the Olympus external hot shoe microphone adapter and a Boya microphone) I press the red button deliberately down, which is no problem at all. And in the event the O ring has to come off, it can be done carefully with little worries for paint damage.
