Does anyone know if a generic USB data cable cord will fit an X1?

Be careful on what you want to do. You cannot charge the battery through its USB, you cannot ahoot it tethering either. All you can do is to transfer pictures, but, it would be much faster to take out the SD card for picture transfering.

To put it simple, forget it. You should never need it.

Warning:

trying to charge the battery through its USB port may burn your camera, and it may not cover by ghe warranttee.

I think there is a misunderstanding here.

The camera USB port is designed to be connected to a USB port.

The camera may or may not charge your battery when connected  to a USB port.

It should not "burn your camera" when the camera USB port is connected to a USB port, since that's what it's designed to do.
